Default Why doesn't Juan Diaz fight Joel Casamayor?

    http://boxingtalk.com/pag/article12789.html

There;s an interview with Joel. Look at Joel's resume. The guy fights anyone. I like Diaz and was totally impressed by his showing v Freitas but Casamayor was meant to fight the winner, what is going on? This inactivty is not helping Casamayor and I don't think he looked that great v the super drained Corrales. Someone needs to fight this guy!

He's scared and he wants to wait for Joel to be so over the hill that he can win.

...good question, i really got that feeling during the post interview of his last fight, I'm not sure really i think that would be a pretty decent fight.

I'm sorry, 23 year old Juan wants to unify the division and that means taking the winner out of David Diaz- Erik Morales and Julio Diaz and then move up and fight the best out of the 140 pounders whether it is Ricky or anyone else - what's wrong with that? As far as I know Joel Casamayor doesn't hold a title but a Ring Magazine World Lightweight Unofficial "title" so why would Juan Diaz take him? Casamayor better move up and put some money on te table to get a meaningful 140 pounder debut or he will not have success doing so much later!

Diaz doesn't want a loss on his record. So he avoids Casamayor like the plague.

That's crap.. Diaz vs Morales doesn't mean shit at 135 and the fact that Diaz was handed the WBC is a complete disgrace. Casamayor being the ring champ means more then any of the other beltholders claim, and Diaz was rightfully get the most respect and recognition for beating him. I have to assume he's scared or just would rather take the easy route and wait around for the winner of a mediocre contender vs a completely shot big name featherweight.

What makes the Ring belt unofficial? I'd say its the only legit belt out there. The Alphabet Orgs through absurd sanctioning fees, unworthy mandatory opponents and BS rankings are killing boxing. Diaz might be a champ, but everyone knows who THE champ is at LW.

I was gonna rip you for what you said about the Ring title, but I see others have beat me to it...
If I was Diaz, I'd avoid Joel Casamayor too, he's one of the best fighters out there. Top 20 P4P easy.

HBO doesn't like his non-crowd-pleasing style, and have openly said that they will not put out any money for his fights. You take HBO out of the equation and a fight with Joel Casamayor is worth nothing. You got to give it to Casamayor he is despertly trying to get big name to fight him.

If you remeber it was origninally going to be Joel Casamayor vs Frietas in a lightweight unification fight, until HBO would'nt buy the fight. So Freitas dumped Casamayor and got Diaz.

HBO backed out of a Casamayor-Freitas fight cuz Freitas insisted that it take place in Brazil. Something HBO and Casamayor did not want. Freitas accepted a fight with Diaz to avoid fighting Casamayor.

I don't think Diaz is avoiding Casamayor at all. He's only 23, give him a chance! He's now a two time world champ and is progressing nicely.

Not many fighters have their career defining fight before they hit 24. He's an exciting fighter and is doing everything right so far.

There is still one more belt out there to be added before a fight with Casamayor needs be made and then it can be to unify all 4 belts.

I like to have a little bit of anticipation and buildup. No need to rush......

Yeah let Diaz fight Katsidis first. That would determine where kats is at, and would be an exciting fight too. Then Diaz should fight Casamayor.

If they fight now I think Casa schools the younger fighter. He's way to slick and the wreckless volume punching is just going to get Diaz in more trouble. Casamayor will rough him up in there with his usual questionable, but effective tactics. It just doesn't seem like a good fight for Diaz at this point, and I'm sure his team knows this. Much respect if they do decide to take this fight though I highly doubt it.
