Alright my people's...here we go again!
HBO's got one hell of a tripleheader planned for us in the welterweight division this weekend! The matches consist of Kermit Cintron vs Walter Matthysse, Arturo Gatti vs Alfonso Gomez, & Antonio Margarito vs Paul Williams.
Ofcourse out of all of these fights to be seen Saturday, July 14th...Williams vs Margarito is the high light for me. Starting at 9:00 p.m. at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ & Home Depot's Center in Carson, CA...Wacko's Drunken Round by Round & HBO will be couchside/ringside for all three matches of this live tripleheader!!!
If I aint mistaken...we start off in Atlantic City & then end up in Los Angeles. Hell of a way to jet set & it should be one fine card for purists & casuals alike.
The starting bout is a battle of welterweight contenders & future hopefuls as they slug it out for bragging rights over 147lbs. Kermit Cintron (27-1, 25 ko's) faces off against Walter Matthysse (26-1, 25 ko's) in a scheduled 12 round welterweight title bout. Cintron's shooting to unify the welterweight division but he's got to get past the very skilled & dangerous Matthysse...this will prove no easy task as both fighters are known for their hellacious knockout power. Should be a scorcher.
Next up on the card? Oh brother. Once again...after two consecutive losses (one to Baldo the other to Floyd), in his 21st appearance on HBO, here comes Arturo Gatti (40-8, 31 ko's) the fighter known as the blood & guts warrior or "the Human highlight reel from Jersey City"! Gatti will be fighting for redemption as he takes on Alfonso Gomez (16-3-2, 7 ko's) in a scheduled 10 rounder of the welterweight division.
Now I know that Gatti's a fan favorite & great for the sport...but really...does anyone really want to see Gatti get beaten again? I mean, is it a sure thing that he'll win Saturday night? I'd have to say that's a big "NO" to both questions...but once again...even though a loss is a possibility...we'll be watching.
The last battle on the card flips from the east coast to a live feed on the west coast of Antonio Margarito (34-4, 24 ko's) finally giving the fans what they want & stepping up to the undefeated Paul Williams (32-0, 24 ko's) in a highly anticipated 12 round 147 pound title fight.
I can't say enough about this fight other than...somebody's gettin spanked & knocked the fwock out!
There's no poll for this DRBR due to all the matches...so just post your picks. Here's mine
Gatti by TKO
Cintron by SD
Margarito by TKO
So cross your fingers dear friends & break out the chips & salsa...pour up the liquor & crack some tops on the brew...it's fight night!
Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches.
