Punch Power: 1624 | | The best American heavyweight I'm sure this thread will bring a tear of joy to Royal's eyes
I'd say Tony Thompson. Guy gets no attention, no hype whatsoever, less hype than guys like Brock who I'm pretty certain he'd beat. He's big, about 6'5, can punch a bit, very busy for a heavyweight, fairly quick, pretty skilled and he's a southpaw.
I give him as good a chance to beat Wlad as anybody outside of Peter, and maybe Chagaev.
I know Bilbo agrees, not sure that's a good sign Any thoughts? |

He definately needs to get some more footwork going
if he ever fights Wlad again, but he's a pretty solid boxer.

Prior to that he was probably considered something of a journeyman with a couple losses on his record already. Most boxers who get hyped usually have undefeated records, Arrerola, Chambers, Brock and Guinn in their times. If a fighter loses early on they appear to disappear of the radar.
Hopefully though he will have his own time in the limelight soone. Consecutive wins over Guinn, T Ibragimov and a KO of Krasniqi certainly qualifies for a title shot imo. Right now he's Ibragimovs mandatory so I'm guessing he's first in line for the winner of Ibragimov Chagaev.

I think he deserves a shot, why not. Ray Austin got one.
I don't think he would beat Wlad, Wlad's just better in most areas. But at least he'd have a chance, at least he has some size and it wouldn't be a repeat of watching shorter guys like Byrd, Brock and Brewster try to get inside on Wlad.
He'd beat Sultan IMO. Maskaev too. Chagaev's probably the best champion besides Wlad but I'd give him a good shot at that one. Chagaev's not that great. |

I don't think he'd beat Wlad or Peter -although a fight with Peter wouldn't be bad-but I guess I don't rate Chagaev as high as you do. I think he's pretty good, better than Ibragimov, but I definitely don't see him having his way with him. I mean its not like Chagaev even really dominated Valuev who was horrible that night, talk about slow. |

Funny thing is...as lousy a fighter he is his work rate is fantastic....If he learned some technique he might make a bit of noise....Not world title Material in any way but just enough to get a big fight before disappearing |

Punch Power: 1624 | | Re: The best American heavyweight I was kinda surprised how many punches Fields was throwing last time I saw him. Can't remember who it was although I knew the other guy's name, a smaller guy-who isn't but I think he might have been a cruiser before or something-and Fields did just keep throwing, it was the other, smaller guy who was worn out at the end. |

I would put him against any American heavy right now. That shows how good the American heavys are right now. An old blown up heavy is the best. |

I think Chagaev's amateur record speaks for itself. Technically he is a very solid fighter, and is good at everything while not great at anything. I think he is a top 5 heavyweight. |
