Default Did tyson punch harder after prison?.

I think he did he said it himself and he did weights and increased his muscle mass which would of given him more strength and power.

Probably due to the increase in muscle.. but that doesn't mean he was more effective, considering the fact that the combination of his speed and power was the reason he was so good pre-prison.. He lost speed in turn for power.

At the risk of being geeky .......

Power is really defined as force times the surface area. As Tyson's fist stayed the same size, and difference in power would only be through an increase in force.

Force is the mass of the shot (ie the 'strength' of it) times the velocity, so simply building more muscle and delivering more force would not necessarily equate to an increase in power if any speed was sacrificed.

Big bulgy muscles often dimish the force of a punch if speed is lost.

I'd have to say No. He the added weight probably added to his pop. But i would have to say he lost more in punch dynamics and technique through his inactivity than he gained from the extra weight.

In his early days much of the power tyson generated came from a combination of using his legs to coil and get his body moving forward, Him turning at the waist, and him snapping off those heavy shots at the elbow. All of those factors with as someone already stated above, his speed... made him a monstrous puncher... especially when it came to ripping those stubby hooks.

Post prison tyson had noone to put and keep him on track so he took short cuts. He didnt use his legs because it wore him down faster... he didn't turn at the waist like or as much as he used to.. Instead he pumped his hands and and shoulders instead of moving his head... and he didn't snap his punches and instead went for those looping shots.... miss... and then wind up in his opponents chest a lot of the times because he tipped forward. His balance suffered too.
He still knocked a few people out when he started using more straight shots than he used to.

But against bruno in 96 tysons punching technique was as good as it was before prison. it was tysons head movement that suffered after prison not his punching technique.

Spped generates power, so no. He was slower and his punches lacked snap.

Keeping all those dudes off your ass makes anyone a better fighter..but a harder hittler i dunno. I'd have to say no, tyson overall performance dropped dramaticly after imo.

doesnt really matter, tyson had lost it byt he time he came out of prison, if he stayed clean n didnt get married or fall in with the wrong people i reckon he would of been the greatest boxer of all time, the youngest champ and nobody could touch him, the most lethal power puncher with pure aggresion and flurries i have probably ever seen.

His punches looked a lot more crisp prior to prison. I thought he was shot after prison.

What do you mean "risk" LOL true though

Im fairly new to this board .One thing I have noticed is there seems to be a TON of post about Tyson's power. What gives I mean we all know he had power but why debate it over and over and over?

Not trying to be a jerk, just wondering whats up.

I am confused by people when they speak of Tysons power as though it was something to marvel at.....Truth is Tyson was never a one punch KO type guy...It was combinations along with how he hit...short and compact that made his punches effective...Once Tyson lost his technique he lost his ability to be truly effective....Watch Tysons fights after he started to get sloppy...When he looked for the KO with one shot.....

What he gained in muscle he lost in speed and timing.
Overall I would say he lost power.

George actually worked at harnessing his power to make up for lack of speed....Foreman was famous for just standing still during workouts and throwing the same punch over and over again at a heavybag until the bag was pretty much ruined....
