Thread: Whose careers would make good movies?

Having seen the thread about boxing movies, I was wondering whose careers would make good movies. Obviously, it probably wouldn't be the guys like Floyd Mayweather who have never really been in trouble, but it's more likely to be the guys who overcame adversity to win a world championship.

Jimmy Wilde would be the one that leaps to mind for me, mainly because he's fairly local and I know his story of rags to riches, and how he went up against much bigger fighters cause he was so small. And coming from the valleys I'm sure there can be some traditional male voice choir singing involved in there.

Who do you think would make for a good biography movie?

Morris East. He won the WBA 140lb title back in 92.

He was a Filipino whose father was a black GI and he wanted to become a boxing champion so he could find his father in the US. He went to Japan and KO'd Hiranaka (who had done Edwin Rosario in ONE) but lost in his first defence against Juan Coggi in Argentina.

For some reason he stopped fighting at 21. I always wondered what happened to him. He never got to fight in America either....

Yeah, Baldo's done well, but I'm not sure if there is that much of an exciting personality and history behind him though.

That Morris East character seems really interesting though....I might have to work on a script for it.

Theres was a Cruiser in the 80s early 90s whose life story is amazing. His name is David Muhaamed its better than Rocky and Rambo put together incredible.

Edison Miranda...He hasn't won a title yet but has a crazy background with looking for his mother alone at age 9

Stanley Ketchell - a rambunctious middleweight who tore though the rankings in the wild 1900's in the States. A wild and crazy guy, lots of wild tales and stories about him, travelling the country with hobos to fight, shot at least two of his managers, knocked jack Johnson down in his heavyweight title bout - when he weighed about 165 . Eventually shot dead by the husband of the woman he was having breakfast with.

Ive heard storys about fighters listen to this, this was told to me and I got 2 journalists who heard it and checked the facts and were spellbound by its accuraceDavid Muhaamed, all African amatuer champ, came back from the Montreal olympics dissapointed by the African withdrawel he was hoping for a medal for Ghana. On his return to ghana he was made leader of the squad that protected the PRESIDENT All went well until he got the blame for being part of the militry Coo and was put in jail with 9 others they escaped and went to Nigeria. they hid low with help from locals and David boxed Pro and bought a large van with the winnings, won another and bought a few weapons. The team decided to go to Libiya taking the Mango Park slave route, along the way battling bandits and tribes. On reaching Libiya the four that were still alive were captured and put in prison where they were given a choice return to Ghana or fight for the Libiyans on the front line. Both were certain death Libiya was at war with Chad. So they decided to escape from prison while everybody was at prayer, 3 off them made it and escaped to caves where they hid up for 5 days then escaped to Tunisia and safety. David worked there carrying sand bags for a while then went to Malta working as a waiter. It was there he met an Englishman who explained about political prisoners and England is where he turned up to be locked up again for 28 days ready to be shipped back to Ghana only for an Mp to fight his case and was aloud to stay in Britain. He was a great fighter who never got a chance. His first fight with me he beat the British champion his second he boxed Axel Schulz in Halle giving weight and a Boxing lesson but losing Ive never heard 6,000 people so quiet during a fight. After that he couldnt get work and drifted out of the game, its a shame he could have been special.
