    Default Re-watched Marquez-Vazquez 2 again

And it was clearly a bad stoppage. Marquez was still firing shots and was slipping most of the punches. He was hurt. No doubt. But he knows how to deal with it. And he was doing it. He was keeping his composure and was defending himself. As the defending champion he should of gotten more lea way. This was a big fight. I have no idea why a referee without much championship fight experience was assigned to work this fight. He made a bad decision. Despite all that Vazquez deserves credit for taking the fight to Marquez and getting the win. I have no doubt he'll keep his word and give Marquez his rematch.

Yes and no ... Fighters have taken a worse beating and gone on to win sure. But both these guys were cut up pretty bad and had both taken a lot of punishment, a few heavy hits to either and who knows what kind of permanent damage could have been done. If the stoppage kept them safe then its a good call ...... bring on fight number three!

I've yet to see the fight but did see the stoppage. It looked A LOT like the Guillermo Jones - Wayne Braithwaite stoppage in how it all went down, cutting short a fantastic fight. The stoppage wasn't really right even though Vazquez was in a fairly dominating position. Can't wait to watch the fight and then see the third.

what matters is that they are even now, although I didn't think it was a quick stoppage. I think the showtime commentator exagerated it for marquez. I thought it was a good stoppage so a third can take place, their was no way marquez was gonna survive another minute. Vazquez was cut but he was stronger and better that night.

Now lets wait for the third match. I think without any injuries to either one, no nose injury coming in for vazquez his much stronger and better. The third will be another hell of a fight, hopefully both are 100%. I see vazquez winning again. His going to end rafas reign for good.

I hope the trilogy would be completed this December. That'd be a sweet christmas gift to all boxing fans from Rafael and Israel.

I have to agree with the ref's stoppage even though you could easily argue it was too quick. I couldn't see Marquez making it out of the round. Obviously this has turned into a classic matchup, but it's sad to me that after the next fight most likely neither guy will be the same as pre-trilogy.

That would be a seriously punishing year for these two though, 3 wars in 1 year

intresting, wats better, stop the fight because they were bein punished, only to create a 3rd fight in which they will be punished more, the thing is i think marquez woulda got tired eventually and vasquez coulda aken ovver and won and that way they wouldnt have to kill themselves for a third fight

Having seen the fight quite a few times,I think it was a premature stoppage too VD and good call on the inexperienced ref,he should NOT have been officiating that fight! Also,Vazquez eyes should have been checked,I've seen stoppages for much much less.

There will almost certainly be a rematch but it will NOT be taking place this year and rightfully so,these 2 need a break, they deserve it. The dates I've heard thus far are Jan or Feb 2008.

Agreed with VD and Gamo it was premature stoppage but in a way im glad Marquez lost so we can have a trilogy in fact in last few years we have been having so many great trilogys Gatti vs Ward Morales vs Barrera ect and im sure when this trilogy is all done it will go down as one of the best trilogys ever we need more fighters like this there not afraid to put it all on the line and i respect that and im not going to pick sides when the 3rd fight happens i will be split 50-50 down the line and good luck to both fighters there pleasure to watch.

He's the same ref that did Lewis-Mcall back in 94 (a fight some argue was stopped premature)

Remember refs only get one shot at getting it right, they don't have the benifit of multiple viewings
