Thread: Xbox 360 vs PS3

I just got a Nintendo Wii for my b-day and I'm thinking about returning it and picking up either a Xbox 360 or PS3, but I can't decide which one to get.
I've done a bit of reading about the 2 systems, but most of the info I've found is either useless propaganda from the company that makes the system, or reviews that don't really compare the two systems. There seems to be some questions about the duribility and manufacturing quality of the Xbox 360 though.
I'm looking for opinions about which one you prefer and why you like it better.

Ok, the real deal:

Xbox 360 right now has by far more/better games and will have the better games for at least a year or two. It has outsold the PS3 by A LOT so it will pretty much be guaranteed support from all independent game developers. Plus, xbox live kicks ass.


PS3 has the potential of having better graphics and more complex games in the long run because the blu-ray format has a lot more capacity. But i've heard that Sony is losing a lot of money on the PS3 and it hasnt been nearly as successful as they thought. So most game developers (its all about the games) will favor making them on the 360 then the PS3 as of now b/c they have potential to make more money that way.

plus 360 now comes with a 3 year warranty.

The 360 has been out a long time and consequently has a much better game collection. It's also moddable and you can download all the games for free off the net, providing you've flashed your console.

They are notorious for quality issues however. I bought 4 modded ones on behalf of customers who I could flog the games to and 3 of them have broken and been needed to repair, two due to heat problems and one because Microsoft released an 'update' that had to be installed in order to run any new games, and once installed checked to see if the firmware had been modded and if so bricks the console

In terms of games and value for money it's 360 all the way, in terms of build quality, relialbility and not having soiled your conscience by supporting Microsoft it's PS3.

Oh I should just say I'm not familiar with the PS3 game lineup but the 360 is about to have some real beauties.

Halo 3

Ps3 online is free Xbox isn't and also Xbox has had some faults like ring of death where your Xbox is screwed forever and you have to buy another machine i think long term ps3 will be better in the end its just Xbox has been out alot longer i would say ps3.

Ah the Ring of Death. I've seen 6 consoles in all with that little beauty,

My brother fixed his console using the penny trick, literally taking his console apart and wedging three pennies underneath the motherboard to push the connections together and stop them seperating.

Apparently it's the worst piece of shoddy workmanship ever, although to be fair Microsoft are claiming that the upcoming Xbox Elite fixes all previous quality issues.

Still since when have Microsoft ever been trustworthy?

Ok, 360 now comes with a 3 year warranty so ring of death is no longer much of an issue. Ive had mine for year and never had a problem.

PS3 online is free but you get what you pay for. I dont have xbox live anymore, but it kicks ass. Plus it is really cheap about $8 a month.


But ps3 has potential but the only good game coming out right now that isnt coming out for 360 is metal gear solid 4.

Like bilbo already said, microsoft has some great exclusives coming!

and the next GTA is coming out the same time for both.

Totally agree it really sucks i've also heard that alot of games on xbox 360 freeze i think if this guy wants a machine thinking long term then he should get ps3 for certain.

They don't make them like that any more.

Thanks to all for the responces. I'm leaning towards the 360; one of the things that bothered me which my origional xbox was how many more games the PS2 had and it seems like the opposite will be true this time around.

Yea but like i said Xbox has been out alot longer there are some really good games coming out on ps3 like resident evil ect but its up to you bro good luck in your choice.

Mate i remember when i was like 6 years old i used to love play Sonic The Hedgehog on Sega and Donkey Kong Country on Super Nintendo they were good old days we all used to play as family cousins grandad granny uncles ect i actually got emulator to play them again brings back so many good memories.

I got the same thing going on in my mind, CFH.

I keep thinking of PS3 but I have been longing to play Dead Rising which is an 360 exclusive.

Ah mate Dead Rising is a fucking brilliant game. It's the most replayable game I've ever played as when you die you can start from the beginning but with all the new moves and clothes you earned from the last game.

It's got some hilarious laugh out loud moments like lawn mowering a couple hundred zombies to death or my favourite running a pneumatic drill through a zombie then using his spinning corpse as a weapon watching in awe as his legs and arms fly off.

Plus you can put on any clothes you find in the game and your character is shown wearing them even in the cut scenes!

The first time and my brother discovered this we both literally choked on our coffee. My bro was playing and he had put on an orange lycra top, ski pants a ridiculous hat and CutMeMick shades. It went into a cut scene with us having to help this black dude under fire from this indian guy.

Anyway when it panned to our character we fucking pissed ourselves.

After that it was a case of seeing the weirdest clothes we could find to start the game again with. In the end we found a Satan face mask and was walking around talking to people wearing it, freaking hilarious!

My favourite game on the 360 so far, only problem it's damn hard and you can only save in toilets so lot's of frustrating dying and reloading problems, but it makes the game harder and last longer so all cool.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say, the Xbox has been out longer and thus will have a greater library of games, much like the PS2 did last time around. I'm sure the PS3 will have some great games come out in the months to come, but I've read that the PS3 is more difficult to program games for - compared to the 360, and that the 360 might have more exclusive titles... but to be fair I got that info from some microsoft propaganda.

I got my 360 for all the same reasons that have been mentioned here. More games, better price tag. I don't really care about blue-ray, I can burn superbit quality dvd's and watch them on a regular dvd player. So the Xbox 360 wins it for me.
