    Default World Cup

Recently we have had Mexico v Thailand and Mexico v The Philipines. However if we could have a boxing world cup you would have many weight classes between different countries. Therefore pick a match and 5 weight classes and who you think would win if they have not fought already.

He is mine? GB v USA

Light Welter- Witter v Kendall Holt. Witter wins
Light Heavy- Woods v Dawson. Dawson wins
Cruiser- Enzo Mac v Steve Cunningham. Enzo wins
Super Middle- Carl Froch v Jeff Lacy. Froch wins
Middle - Howard Eastman v Kelly Pavlik. Pavlik wins

I have excluded obvious vuctories in some of the weights where possible. i.e. GB has no real opposition in Light middle or Heacyweight etc.

Tip of the month: Protect yourselves at all times. You never know when the scheming bitch will come back for more.

'Not gonna happen. It would cost like gazillion of dollars for that kind of event to happen.

I really like the idea, but it would be even more cool if there was 5-7 established weights that stayedthe same no matter which countries fighting. You would have one country holding the title, having to defend it once a year (or perhaps even twice a year). Now it doesn't always have to be same fighters, or indeed the best figters from every country - all that would be up to the 'team coach'.

Then you would have entire boxing nations being world champions, and this would also set the basis of some pretty interesting individual fights (that can be title fights as well, as we saw recently).

However, I would suggest that you actually divided the cup into 2 parts - one for higher weights and one for lower weights. As much as people here are moaning about the current British HW scene, proud boxing nations such as Phillippines or Japan would struggle to find a suitable contender even for Audley Harrison. On the other hand - as pointed out by Bilbo recently - GB would struggle to find a single boxer small enough to compete at the lowest weights. Some countries would do well or at least decent at both competitions (e.g. US, Mexico, Puerto Rico), while others would only be a serious candidate at one (e.g. GB, Philippines, Japan).

So, my suggestion would be something like this:

World cup holder -140: Current champ Phillipines
    Championship weights: 112, 118, 126, 135, 140

World cup holder 147+: Title vacant
    Championship weights: 147, 160, 175, 200, Above 200.

Now, as for potential match-ups then:

Below 140: Phillipines vs. Japan (with the slight help of boxrec, as my boxing knowledge is fairly limited at these weights)

112: Nonito Donaire - Takefumi Sakata
118: Gerry Penalosa - Hozumi Hasegawa
126: Jimrex Jaca - Zaiki Takemoto
135: Czar Amonsot - Kengo Nagashima
140: Ranee Ganoy - Norio Kimura

Above 140: USA vs UK (as this was suggested in the original post). Bear in mind that I am somewhat trying to be realistic about what could happen, and what could be put together without a gazillion dollars.

147: It would be easy to say Floyd - Hatton, but if I should be serious (in my dream scenario), then those kind of matches would never happen as part of this. So I'm going with Andre Berto - Kevin Anderson (no, Berto is not the 2nd best welter in the states, but he is better than whoever would be representing UK, and this would be a good showcase).
160: Sergio Mora - Howard Eastman
175: Chad Dawson - Clinton Woods
200: Steve Cunningham - Enzo Maccarinelli
Above 200: John Ruiz - Audley Harrison (just kidding! Tony Thompson - Matt Skelton perhaps? That one would be fairly attractive for both fighters, as the winner should be close to a title shot)

The fights would be most exciting if those happen. It is not feasible though.Very far from realization.

Great .... that's just what we need. Maybe we could make some more belts and call it the World Cup Championship (WCC for short)

If we demanded multiple bouts at different weights, we could charge more in sanctioniing fees too.
