    Default Povetkin - Byrd

According to boxrec Alexander Povetkin and Chris Byrd are set to meet in Germany on October 27th:
    http://www.boxrec.com/date_search.ph...07&mm=10&dd=27

I know this is boxrec and all, but have anybody heard anything about this?

Would be a good, solid step up for Povetkin (14th fight!), but he should be able to pull it off. Interesting though!

Btw Sebastian Sylvester looks to fight on the same card - looks like 'easy' victory on that one.

This is a part of the IBF tournament to pick Wlads next mandatory. The winner of Byrd Povetkin is supposed to fight the winner of Chambers vs Brock.

What is the point? I dont think Brock or Byrd want to fight Wlad again. Seems odd to me, but Byrd in particular knows he cant beat Wlad and has even admited it... I doubt he beats Povetkin though.

Not sure that Byrd is washed up enough to lose to this guy, but yeah what would be the use of Brock or Byrd fighting Wlad again. Shows how badly the alphabet groups manage boxing when no-hopers and retreads get title shots no one wants to see. Remember Vaughn Bean and his title fights based on beating mostly guys with sub .500 records?

I think his promoter Butch Lewis must have married the IBF president's daughter to get that shot. LOL

The IBF mandatory tournament isn't really achieving anything. All it can do is test Povetkin, and he's far too green to face Wlad IMO.

I can't see Brock or Byrd beating Wlad. I don't see Chambers beating Brock!

    So what is the point?

I just researched Povetkin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Povetkin)and I think he's going to beat the hell out of Byrd.

This is exactly what is wrong with boxing today....not your post, but for the reality it represents.

With all of the really good fights coming up at the end of this year, you'd think Wlad would demand something better than this. I'm a huge Klitschko and Byrd fan but damn, the HW division has got to give us more.

Brock v Chambers is a great matchup, but I gotta disagree. Chambers has a very good chance against Brock. Chamber is going to counter Brock all night long. Chambers will have a huge advantage in speed and boxing skill. I'm not sure if Chambers can hurt Brock, but I can see him outpointing him. Brock gets a big edge in power, but I'm not sure he'll land all that much and he'll be getting peppered with combo's everytime he throws.

The only problem with the tournament is that Byrd had a good chance of winning and I don't know why the heck he would get back in the ring with Wlad, ever. Why enter a tournament when you don't really want the grand prize.

The only heavyweight match up their should be is between the heavy weights to get a unified champ. Povetkin may well beat Byrd but no way does he beat Vlad at the moment.

Shit that would end just like Wlad-Austin!

Wladimir Klitschko needs to fight these guys in order:
    1. The winner of Peter/Maskaev .....this fight is a MUST
    2. Ruslan Chagaev....since he weasled his way out of fighting Ibragimov I think it's a good choice.
    3. Corrie Sanders ......KO-ing Sanders would prove EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL to his legacy

He can currently pass the time by fighting these guys:
    1. Nicolay Valuev
    2. Tony Thompson
    3. Shannon Briggs
    4. John Ruiz

#1 those are the guys EVERYONE wants to see lose (besides Thompson who has shown lots of skill and heart) and #2 Ruiz and Briggs are 2 of the biggest shit talkers and #3 Valuev is big as hell and has never been KO'd
