    Default Dunne/Martinez

Saturday night, on Setanta I believe.

    Dunne to win again but Martinez is 16 - 0 with 13 KO's and a 40 (3 - 0 Amateur record!

    Should be a cracker!

Ive never seen Martinez but looking at his record it's proper crap. Not sure how much the KO's are worth but at least he was doing it in the AMs too, so, being an unbeaten young puncher makes it half-interesting.

This is a good bill. Looking forward to Oakey-Magee.

    3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.

I agree Fen, I think the most interesting fight out of this bill is Oakey Magee, and I fancy Oakey to really give Magee a bit of bother. As for Martinez, he just hasn't been in with anyone of quality in the pros, and although he might have a good amateur record, it's a whole different ballgame when the headguards get thrown out of there. Dunne should coast this one to be honest.

Is it worth me doing a RBR?

If you've got the time that would be great.
I'm leaning towards Martinez to win.

Well Gentlemen, sorry iv joined this conversation late.
Not only does this fella have considerably less expierience than Bernard in the pros and amateurs, he has had nowhere near the quality training Bernard has.
Still i do see a risk here. Bernard's chin has seriously come into question in his past number of fights. Particularily against Voronin and Walstad, dunnes chin appeared vulnearable as he tired. Ironically in his toughest fight, (the first Euro title fight) his chin appeared perfectly fine when Ingle's man tested him.
So this is more interesting a fight than it first appears. A little bit of an acid test for Bernard's chin.

It was an acid test for Bernard's chin....and sadly it came up sorely lacking. Martinez was an absolute powerhouse though...and will cause a lot of fighters in the division problems if he can catch them.

Interview recently in the Star tabloid newspaper, (which is pretty reliable for boxing as it is the only Irish newspaper ever to pay attention to the sport,) interveiewd Dunne. In the interview he expressed his desire to fight Martinez again and how it was up to his management to arrange the fight.
He said he felt that Martinez had not damaged his confidence as he was not outboxed or comprehensively beaten over 8-10 rounds. He said Kiko never proved he was the better fighter he just caught him cold.

In my opinion this rematch must now happen to ressurect Dunnes career. Rumours of complacency in the Dunne camp and his vast underestimation of the then Challenger have not helped his poularity one bit and he has taken a bit of a beating, if not in the media, in the whisperings of the public. A win over Martinez would surely set the scene for a rubber match and Dunne had better hope he finds some newweapon which will capacitate him to beat the Spaniard.

Another point which i dislike d about Dunne was his insistence that the fight be held in Ireland, Ok it makes sense financially but where is his integrity. Martinez came to Dunnes back yard and Knocked him out as challenger, why does dunne the challenger feel that the Champ should now travel; to him once agin. Mayb an excuse not to make the fight?

Mate he's Irish it's virtually impossible for his career to fail. His fans are so passionate that he will always sell out Dublin no matter who he's fighting.

He's still a very high profile fighter, exciting to watch and with a ton of potential. Personally I can't wait to see him in the ring again. He certainly doesn't need a rematch with Martinez to rebuild his career.

Such is his popularity in Dublin I still wouldn't be suprised if Molitor or one of the other champs decided to come over and fight him.

    He's huge in Ireland.

If there was a rematch it would make sense to have it in Ireland financially. Those Irish sure know how to pack out an arena.

was at the fight, martinez got him with a great punch and dunne couldn't recover. I would love to see them toe to toe for 12 rounds, both could make a great fight. If the rematch comes off my money is on Bernard this time.

Bilbo i'm irish, alot of his popularity died when he went down.
I'm not saying he's done as a fighter, he's just going to have to do something spectacular to regain the support he once had. When Dunne lost it wasn't like this great aura of invincibility was broken, it was more like, confirming what everybody already knew.

If Dunne goes toe to toe again he gets knocked out, he can outbox Martinez, but toe to toe he gets iced
