Roy Jones and Mayweather have one thing in common. It's like everyone knows they are the best but when both in their primes, they are the most targeted and criticized athletes in the sport. What's the deal?

When you're up, people want to see you get knocked down. Thats life.

And thats totally right and you will always get crictism.
Jealously...some of it of it they bring on themselves but that has got to be one of the biggest reasons anyone can look at what they've accomplished and find still find something bad to say. If pbf was a white member of the klan i would still have to look at what he's done in the ring and say he's the best there is right now, i'd hate him as a person and for what he stood for and probably root against him every fight but for me to criticize anything about what he did in the ring would be silly, just like it is for people who do it now.

I personally thought Roy Jones Jr. and Floyd Mayweather were great fighters. Although, I really don't feel Roy had a tough weightclass or much competition when he was still around (or still good for that matter).
Floyd is hated or crticized because of his out-of-the-ring attitude. He acts like a cocky individual. Oddly enough, while he's in the ring he's mature beyond his years.
I enjoy watching both and people maybe say Jones fought weak opposition and ect but actually look who he did fight and win.Originally Posted by caleoh12

Jones has some good names on his resume and great performances but went a long time avoiding the most dangerous comp.......And when he beat second tier comp he bragged as though they were P4P.....Turns people off....Top level fights were few in between.....He also had any and every reason not to fight those who called him out
Floyd is actually not a bad guy away from the camera...would give the shirt off his back but people do not know that.....He also has avoided names that many wanted him to fight.....
Worst part is his antic are not just obnoxious they are in bad taste.......they often go beyond insulting the fighter but his background as well...

In Oz they call it the tall poppy syndrome, both Jones and Mayweather have been less than humble with regards to their achievements and everyone wants to know who will be the one to knock them out of the tree. It made a star out of Tarver (for a while) Who will do it to PBF?Originally Posted by 9 mili brother
I bet my left knacker that the majority of boxing/sports fans were happy as a pig in shit when Smokin' Joe beat Ali in 1971.
It's just cos they are the most talented, it's they're characters too. If they behaved like gentleman and always took fights the fans wanted they'd be celebrated like Oscar or Holyfield. To be fair Mayweather;s image is improving solely on the competition he's keeping (I.E Oscar and Hatton). He's still an asshole but I do appreciate his smack talk these days. I loved how he took the Hatton fight in particular. I believe him when he says he wants to hurt Hatton. Shame he's gonna get served come Dec 8th. Lets see how he takes his first KO loss.

man people say that roy wasnt this or that because he never fought this guy or that guy. but he what he did to toney and griffen proved to me that he was the stuff. nevermind dominating everything else he fought. i think roy couldve survived (though definitely not dominate) in any era of boxing and i dont say that about alot of fighters.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
WOW "Big Dan" that's a huge call on the Hatton V Mayweather fight, i like the fatboy but i'm not convinced he can catch Mayweather let alone stop him.Originally Posted by 'Big' Dan McCarthy
I agree. Jones was just unbeatable during his prime. Whew, he is in my all-time greats.Originally Posted by ThomasTabin

He talks a lot about making his opponent wave the white flag, I think it's him thats gonna be waving it, I can see a late stoppage, either he won't get up, or he won't get out of his stool due to the pressure, he will break.Originally Posted by THE THIRD MAN
