whats the profile on this guy?

I've only ever seen him fight twice and they were both losses to Oscar and mayweather. it seems to me that he quit in both fights. Ive never heard any post fight interviews from Hernandez as to why he quit... its obvious he was doing it tough in the ring but I'm just so curious to what he thought about his losses and how he rated dela hoya and mayweather p4p

Not sure about the Mayweather fight, but Oscar broke his nose in several places.

He was getting killed in the Mayweather fight. His corner stopped the fight because he was taking a beating. I wouldn't say he quit.

That\'s pretty much it. Mayweather was to fast and to young for Hernandez. Hernandez retired after the fight. Not only that Hernandez developed an eye problem (since repaired) afterwards. So it was smart for him to retired when he did.

Mayweather only had 21 fights or something like that going into Hernandez fight plus Hernandez had never been beaten at that weightclass was very impressive win and how he done it was even more impressive he just totally outboxed him and the corner done totally right thing because Hernandez was taking too many power shots.

mayweather was young in that fight face
oscar it was at a heavier weight

Genaro Hernandez, good fighter, a terrible boxing commentator. He's so f*cking bias.

Coming from the bias king that statement holds alot of weight.

2nd I'm glad to read a post on a fighter like 'Chicanito' many times fighters who do really good things are never appreciated, fighters like 'Chicanito' Hernandez, Yory Boy Campas, Manuel Medina and I'm sure theres plenty of others.

'Chicanito' as he became known was pure class, he grew up in Sout Central L.A. and then later attended Roosevel High School in East L.A. which is the same H.S. I graduated from. I met him several times there when he came to speak to the students.

'Chicanito' is a level below the best, he had really good wins but the biggest names he faced he lost to. 'Chicanito' had lot's of heart and determination. But he lacked in speed and power his footwork was OK, I think his biggest asset was that he was smart in the ring and outsmarted his opponents early on. When he and ODLH met it was the battle of East L.A. since they we're both coming out of there and also because ODLH attended the rival H.S. which is Garfield H.S. also in East L.A. so it was on. From what I've heard is that the amount of money was sooo right for 'Chicanito' to face ODLH that he didn't care that he (Chicanito) had to move up to Lightweight in order to fight him. ODLH was just to smart and quick for 'Chicanito' and just beat him. PBF gave him a boxing clinic, a lot of people say 'Chicanito' was past it but IMO that's one of PBF's best wins on his resume.

To see 'Chicanito' at his best you'd have to dig deep and get a hold of his fights with; Londas tho not world class he put up a helluva fight and 'Chicanito' just showed signs of things to come. Watanabe was game also and 'Chicanito' boxed well that night moving around and then stepping in with combinations. His last hurrah! was wining the SD over 'The Professor' I've only seen a few rounds from this fight and not in it's entirety so I can't completely comment on it.

I had a chance to talk to 'Chicanito' at a boxing event and he was realy friendly with me we talked throughout the entire night, about some of his fights and what he did while in H.S. being that we were both from the same H.S. good times talking with him and I learned a lot more about him that day.

Hernandez worked as a commentator on the Morales-Diaz card and did a fine job. I wouldn't mind listening to him work more fights.

really good to see focus on a truely top notch guy like genaro.thin as a rail ,i believe underrated In skills.He Had A Solid Chin And Was Not EasyTo Catch Over &Over(save Pretty Girl & The Colgate Kid).Not a Puncher at All But Almost A Slicer Like Puncher.I Remember Early On Him Able To Fight Off The Ropes Very WellAnd Pick His Shots.Of Course,He was Not Fighting Class a Foes At THe Forum But He was Fun to Watch.His Fights With RAul Perez stand out also,#1 Ended Before It Got Started With 17(?) Sec. Head Butt & The 2nd Ended Suddenly With ONe Of THe Best Body Shots Ive Seen By hernandez.He Showed Real Class Always,I Think Thats THe One He Took His Belt From Shoulder and Insisted Perez Have It.That Nelson Fight He was Really Showed brass Balls as The people all around Basicallly Told Him He Would Win On DQ.He Carried On v.
