Default John Duddy v Kelly Pavlik in March at the Garden

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this before or whether this is the first time its been mooted, but in a BBC interview about Dudy's 8 December bout against Noe Tulio Gonzalez it says that it's a tune-up fight for his step into the big leagues against Pavlik in March at Madison Square Garden.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7034078.stm

Personally, I think Duddy would show his usual grit and determination but would be outclassed and outgunned against Pavlik, who would stop him in the middle rounds.

Yea i've seen this and i reckon Pavlik will dominate Duddy and stop him in the 6th.

I agree totally, the opponent in front of him, Noe Tulio Gonzalez Alcoba has only one loss on his record, and that was by UD against Felix Sturm in Germany, so he is not to be underestimated. I reckon billing this fight in Dublin as a tune-up might see him end up with a bit of a tough fight on his hand that's more than that. And he still needs to convince the Irish fans I think, because he wasn't fantastic last time out.

Does anyone have any doubts about what the final outcome of this fight will be?
I don't want to see Duddy get destroyed.

Duddy is ok...he's nothing spectacular but he's a blue collar brawler and a hard worker....not the type that will give Pavlik any trouble.

Andy Lee given the propper time will be trouble for ANYONE

No wonder all the guys at Kronk weren't impressed by JT. Andy was t the top dog at the gym, even when JT was champ, and I doubt he did much in training to show he was any better than Andy. I like Duddy alot, but I'm guessing Andy Lee is going to be the man at MW once Pavlik lets up on the diet and moves up to 168 or 175.

I hope Duddy's camp doesn't do like Miranda and just look past their opponent and get smoked in the fight. Miranda did the same with Pavlik and got a whoopin'.

This really upsets me who the hell has John Duddy fought to deserve this fight and what the hell happen with the immediate Taylor rematch. I hope Taylor hasn't changed his mind. If this Duddy and Pavlik fight do go on Duddy is going to get his whooped because he is not ready and is only hurting himself.

I think it's both a great oppertunity and a great big disaster waiting to happen if they do this fight....John Duddy isn't ready for the big time....and Kelly Pavlik bitched about being ducked by everyone and what does he do but go out a find the least deserving guy to pummel just so he looks good.

FUCK Pavlik if he takes this fight! Arthur Abraham, Felix Sturm, a rematch with Jermain...those are the fights to be made.

Duddy is undefeated but his biggest win was almost a loss to an ANCIENT Yory Boy Campas!

If Kelly wants someone to pad his record or take it easy with then John Duddy is still pretty far down the list

I would agree with you, but I seriously doubt Abraham and Strum would accept a fight with Pavlik. I remember Strum bitching out against a Taylor fight. Strum seems to be happy staying in Europe defending against mediocre to poor level opponents.

If this were just a stay busy fight for Pavlik that could be done this year, then I wouldn't mind. But that obviously can't happen so I'm a little upset that Pavlik would want it for March. Alan Greene should have a shot at Pavlik before Duddy, or let Greene and Duddy go at it 1st, then the winner can get Kelly. Not to mention the rematch with JT, that should be done before anything, if Taylor's guys still want it.

....it's fine if Kelly wants an easy fight for his first defense but Taylor took on Hopkins in the rematch and then Winky Wright....Kelly is going to have to have big names put infront of him sometime so why not now?

You at least try to get the fights done....if not, if I was Kelly's management I would entertain going to 168 immediately for no reason other than that is where the big guys are: Calzaghe, Kessler, Andrade, Mundine, Bute, Froch, etc. And Say what you will about those guys but the division is currently deeper than middleweight where the top guys Kelly can fight are: Taylor in a rematch, Abraham, Miranda in a rematch, Sturm, Corey Spinks (who really has the style to beat Kelly if he wore a helmet or something, that might help), Ouma, Karmazin, Sylvester, Joval, and so on.

Kelly has plenty of options but very few megafight options at 160

If Taylor is more mobile and jabs more then he's going to be tougher for Pavlik to beat. Kelly looks a little slow a foot which is not uncommon for punchers with that kind of power

Pavlik's destroyed both Miranda & Taylor back to back...I think he'd be fine with a lax showing against a step downer...he's earned it.

As far as nothing at middleweight left...Pavlik could take on Abraham, Wright, Sturm, Taylor, & then move up if he needed. Those four fights strung out with W's to boot coupled with the fact that he's undefeated, already taken out Miranda/Taylor back to back, & then has knocked out everyone he's faced outside of 2-3 folks...that's one hell of a career prior to moving up to 168lbs.

    Think about it.
