    Default Underrated......

Just a few things i think have been badly underrated. Tell me if u agree or not, and maybe add some of your own.....

Most underrated wins of 2007. Kessler v Andrade. Andrade is a tough SOB, and Kessler totally destroyed him (winning every round easily), u could argue that this performance was as impressive as Calzaghe v Lacy yet it barely gets mentioned.
Mundine v Soliman. Mundine looked great and KO'd Sam, when both those things are almost impossible to do against Soliman, who has made a career out of making opponents look bad(ask Winky Wright), and has a granite chin.

Most underrated fighter all time. Alexis Arguello. This man was the man for so long in some of the lower weight divisions, and deserves to be as famous as fighters like Duran, yet ask casual boxing fans who he is and most wont know.

Most underrated current fighter. Celestino Caballero. The guy is a monster for his weight and has beaten Ponce de Leon, and other top guys yet hardly gets mentioned in the mix in the top quality 122 division.

Most underrated fight of 2007. Ndou v Ben Rabah. Televised in Australia, dunno about anywhere else. Was toe to toe all night, Rabah was on top all night yet Ndou wore him down til he collapsed from exhaustion. Loads of flush shots that rocked both fighters yet they kept coming forward. Watch this fight.

Please add more UNDERRATEDS IF U CAN THINK OF THEM.

I agree with everything you mentioned, especially Caballero. He is an excellent fighter and has some very immpressive wins as of late. Arguello is underrated i think because he was in an era of other great fighters and is unfortunately mostly known to casual boxing fans as the guy who fought 2 losing wars to Pryor toward the end of his career. But he had accomplished so much before those fights that make him an ATG ...another fighter as of late who I think is underrated and not given enough credit is Joachim Alcine. He is a real threat so I doubt the big names will be calling him out. For your very true thoughts.

good calls agree with all of them pretty much. Caballero had a chance to impress on Showtime recently though and struggled to get the win. Certainly didn't do his cause much good.

I think my most underrated fight was Mormeck vs Bell 2, an absolute humdinger of a fight that only Bob Sheridan seemed to cover. In fact I'd go so far to say that Cruiserweight division itself is really underrated right now. With Mormeck, Haye, O'Neil Bell (whose still the best in the division imo) Enzo, Steve Cunningham and maybe guys like Chris Byrd, Jeremy Williams etc coming back down it's really livening up. Too bad Haye won't there for long but I can't wait to see him at heavyweight!

Not sure about the most underrated current fighter but Caballero is a good call, he certainly gets very little exposure considering his record. Funnily enough though I'd say the most underatted on this board would be Oscar De La Hoya. I've heard even normally respectable posters cite how he isn't in the top 5 at junior middleweight which I find frankly rediculous.

They cite his 3 losses in his last 5 fights but honestly come on he lost to the p4p best fighter in the sport by a SD, lost a fight to one of the greatest middleweights of all time whose now fighting at light heavy, and he lost a controversial fight to another former p4p star and one of the best fighters of the best decade in Shane Mosely. He also got a controversial win over Felisx Sturm but let's be honest Sturm is a decent middleweight, Oscar was out of shape and he still got the win.

People just still put him bottom of the list behind Spinks, Forrest, Karmazin, Alcine and Ouma. I'm like you think any of those guys would have done better against that level of opposition?

Thanks for the replies. I didnt see Caballero's last fight so didnt realise he looked bad. Still got the W i guess. I dont think that anyone who knows a lot about boxing believes that DLH is worse than those guys u mentioned, but your right a few do. CC

Good post, though I wouldn't say Kessler destroyed Andrade, but he definately wore the rubber off the wheels on that guy. You'd have to hit Andrade with a bat and some chains to destroy him, but a great fight it was. I'm thinking Hatton's win over Castillo was a bit underrated. Thought Ricky should have gotten more credit for that win, instead of alot of people just saying Castillo was shot and that was that.

Hattons win is a tricky one. Yeah some people didnt give him enough credit. Any 4th round KO of Castillo is a good win. On the other hand tho, some of his fanboys made it sound as tho it was an ATG win, when in fact it wasnt. So it was overrated and underrated at the same time i guess.....

As for Kessler v andrade, winning every round and having heaps left in reserve is a domination, (destroy was maybe the wrong word), and he beat Andrade as easily as Joe beat Lacy.

Good points and I agree on the Hatton win; guess it depends on point of view. I didn't think it was the greatest ever "shock em" win, yet on the other side of the coin it was pretty impressive.
On Andrade's loss; sh#t tpwards the end of the fight I was rooting for Andrade as that boy is TOUGH. Any kind of win has to feel good over Librado, especially coming out unscathed. CC Eagle

CC#102 on me eagle for mentioning 'El Flaco Explosivo' defintely underrated and under appreciated.

The man is legendary...... He is the ONLY boxer whos been Champion in 3 weight classes, defended every title he had at least once and NEVER lost a Championship fight. I think he does get placed low in all time P4P rankings and he is less talked about then the likes of other fighters who did less then he.
I've had that avatar picture of him dropping 'El Puas' from day 1 here at Saddos, I changed it once to commemarate Sanchez vs. Gomez.

It was actually ppl such as yourself that put me on to Arguello, and if i'd never gone on this site i'd probably not realised how great he was. Thats the main reason i see him as underrated.

Arguello's biggest weakness was once sharing a ring with Jim Watt. Just like a top musician deciding to record a duet with Britney Spears that kind of association can ruin an otherwise unblemished career

I might be sounding naive, but can u explain how fighting Watt was so bad?

i really haven't considered arguello as underrated cos i've always rated him highly. watched his fight when i was a kid and still remember his encounter with bazooka limon, chacon and the philippines' rolando navarette. and who can forget the aaron pryor fights? classic, if only it wasn't tainted with rumours of drinks being spiked. pryor simply wore him down.

I meant to the casual fan he is underrated, not to a true boxing fan such as yourself.
