Default Remember Ebo Elder vs. Courtney Burton?

Man, this was a GREAT fight a few years back. These two were on the fringes of or were in the top 10 at light weight and just went to war. It really was a great fight, and then in the last round with both eyes nearly swollen shut, Elder pulled off a miracle and knocked Burton out to win the fight after bein down on all scorecards. Sad to think that both guys are just about shot now, but for night, they sure gave us a great great fight to remember. Any body else remember it?

Now that you mention it, I think I do remember that fight. I wonder if it's on youtube I'll try to find it.

Is Ebo retired now? Last I saw of him he was getting KO'd on the contender. Boxrec has that listed as his last fight.

Only thing I remembered was Ebo crying at the end with both his eyes swollen almost shut arms raised. I think because its used in some kind of footage that plays alot on some kind of opening...classic ESPN? He may have had health issues because I remember him losing on contender and having to go to the hospital afterwards for a scan.

Ebo retired after contender.I think he looked at that as farewell tour,One final shot.I remember wanting Ebo so bad to flatten Burton after Burton got one of worst decisions Ive seen vs. E.Augustus.
Elder was all blood and guts.He rode that comeback KO win into Title eliminator bout With Lakva Sim And Over 11 + rounds Took a Horrific Beating.I believe He was down 6 times over all with 3 coming in The 12th.It was sad man, dude couldn't even stand up and Sim toar into him.
Surprised he was able to rebound respectably and compete on Contender really,He looked Hurt bad,Falling over and "stepping In post holes"Hell of a Tuff fighter though.

That was a great fight! It was also sad though because they ruined each other imo. They really left everything in the ring that night and I dont think either guy was the same after that. I still remember how distorted Ebo's face was at the end of the fight. He didnt look human.

Yeah, that fight ruined Ebo. I liked him. First time I saw him was when he handed Oscar Diaz his first loss in a beautiful exhibition. He'd been brought in as an opponent for the 17-0 Diaz - Ebo was considered done after a 1st round KO to tough journeyman Ubaldo Hernandez and then he took 2 years out to become a drummer in a New York band. He boxed rings around Diaz and I was hooked.

Burton was the fight that made him and broke him. He's still only 28 so maybe he'll come back again but I know that he and his father are mega-Christians and wanted to start their own church.

Thanks for the info Taans.Personally I hope he stays out.He justs seems to soak up punishment like a sponge.Nice guy,His Interviews on Contender w/ family were pretty cool.Hate to get all "Oprah moment" but it was great perspective.

Unfortunately, due to my hatred of all things 'reality' I have never watched The Contender.

Yeah,Ive had my choice word for The contender. It almost is its own Gym.A farm league for the most part putting Grade B or C Fighters Into A+ Limelight.Save for an exception or two.
Frankly I'd rather they (ESPN) dedicate it time, money and heart Into actual Consistant Fight cards instead of a Pre-fab Creation .Hey the fighters and fights are real but all the Theatrics can go.

Theres a saying.... "Too many Chefs in the kitchen."Networks are all about Packaging AND THEN Product Imo. Look at Ultimate Fighter compared to Contender?? I dont have the stomach.

I think you may be right. It was such a brutal fight, that it could have ruined both fighters.
