After watching Calzaghe give Kess a boxing lesson theirs nothing I can do but respect him.

Hes def. earned it and needs to be respected for that.
At one point he did everything I said he wouldn't do to Kess.

This fight has def. made think and view what would have been if he and RJJ would have met.

Congrats to Joe and his fans.

    Peace,
    Mick

It was a great fight Kessler did well but Calzaghe evolved at least two levels before the end of rd 12 it just makes me wander, where is the ceiling for Calzaghe?

Congrats to you also Mick, you called it that Joe had to box on the outside and you were right.

I felt he showed his age on a couple of occasions, but a fight with another old timer like Hopkins would be super (do people still use that word? )

Fair probs to Kess, he posed a lot of problems, and was gracious in defeat, I'll be a fan of him from now on.

Great performance from Calzaghe. Kessler is a good fighter. But I expected more from him. He needed to let his hands go more. But Calzaghe wouldn't let him. Calzaghe-Hopkins needs to happen

Are you giving Calzlappy some due respect?
Am I reading this right? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

    Indeed, Joe deserves mad respect

He should definitely finish out at light heavyweight

Calzaghe just threw over a 1000 punches again. I dont think he is showing signs of age. Looked as good as always against possibly his best opponent.

Absolutely. One could easily argue that he is not just the best Super Middleweight in the world but the best fighter. He does things in the ring that cant be taught and ive seen no other fighters do. B-Hop would be a fight that Joe could win because he does similar things to Hop but more of it. They both lean in with their heads at times and I think it would be an ugly fight....I have a ton of respect for Kessler too. He really fought the best he could and made no excuses. He is the second best in the division by far and will be number one after Calzaghe leaves the division.

I didn't expect that. Kessler fought at the standard I expected him to fight but there was a the sort of difference between the fighters that you see when you watch a top of the league football club take on middle of the table opposition; much more guile and savvy. Joe's superior ring-craft was evident.

    Showed his age

That was one of the most conditioned fights i've seen..

At what point did he show his age other than the superior experience

he through over a thousand punches against the most dangerous puncher in the division and he was faster than a fast 28 year old...

    Cal looked GREAT for 27

He wes in fantastic shape, I just felt he lost the desire to trade. He's certainly not shot, but just not showing the power he had a few years back.

As I've said in a previous thread, I might have looked at the fight through nervous and pessimistic eyes, feeling every punch Kessler lkanded. But I thought it was closer than some guys making out, though certainly did win more rounds a against a truly world class opposition.

He was moving beautifully in there - he just posed too tough a problem for Kessler to figure it out. Although I wasn't sure going into round 5 or so - I thought it was still a toss up. Joe mixed it up well, I thought - good combination of boxing and power.
