Default Miguel Cotto, I salute you, but...

You may have won that fight(could go either way, but I favored Mosley if that matters). You took advantage of Mosley's overrated boxing skills, especially defensively, and his bad timing. You showed us your ability to box, and take a punch. However, Mosley won almost the whole first half of the fight, and he won the last few rounds which included him overpowering you(Yet you showed the best boxing of the whole night going backwards). Mosley was breathing hard from round 2, yet as the fight went on he was stronger than you were. Also when Mosley was on the move you, Miguel, had a hard time catching him... Have fun with Floyd. I don't believe you have the pressure, stamina, or ability to beat Floyd if you fight in the next 2-3 years.

As for Mosley I congradulate you on winning the fight, and I hope you get a fight with Mayweather when Cotto fights Margarito because I believe your speed causes more problems for Floyd than Cotto does, because Floyd is the master of timing(except when comparing him to Roy JOnes Jr.), but Cotto doesn't use enough pressure, doesn't get in there enough, and doesn't have the defensive skills or footwork to beat Mayweather.

Also I think everything I said was right. I thought it was a close fight, but Mosley's speed and strength IMO really gave Cotto a hard time, and Cotto gave MOsley a hell of a fight(perhaps challenged him physically more than anyone except Vernon Forest).

Everyone is entitled to an opinion...but I totally disagree with everything you said other than the fact that it was a close one.

Outside of Forrest, Cotto pressured & hurt Mosley more than I have ever seen anyone.

I had Cotto winning most of the early rounds.

I know nothing about boxing... look how many more power punches Mosley was landing, just because he couldn't hit as hard did not mean he was scoring more points than Cotto... I had him winning 1,3,4,5 so 4-2 instead of 4-2 for Cotto, and they were close rounds, but he was landing the better shots. What do you know about boxing, what insightful information have you ever given?

I think that people are entitled to think what they want about who won what rounds because most of them were very close, but what did you not agree about Mosley over powering him in the later rounds? Who was forced to move backwards bloody mouth or not... it looked like MOsley was bleeding out of his ears, but he was still pushing forward though rather ineffectively. How did Cotto put great pressure on Mosley? Watch Hatton then watch Cotto you will see the difference between trying to smother a guy and put pressure on them, and trying to pick the right punches and put hurt on an opponent. Also I can't remember which rounds they were, but it was around the 7th or 8th when Mosley decided to move more, and I though he was in trouble, but Cotto was having a hard time cornering him.

As for Mosley's overrated boxing skills, he was hit a whole punch by a slow Vargas in their first fight, he was hit a lot in his second fight against ODLH, Wright 1 and 2, Forrest was able to hit him a lot as well so that shows me his defense isn't amazing, Also Mosley wasn't able to ever turn into a true boxer who really uses his legs except maybe in Vargas 2 against a zombie. He doesn't throw a real jab, he realies on his power, and combinations to overwhelm. Because of his athletic qualities he can compensate, and make himself look like a better boxer than he really is because of his reflexes and speed, but he can often be caught in transition which Wright did a lot, Oscar did in their second fight, and Vernon did in their fight, and Cotto did last night.
Also you didn't think Cotto did a good job boxing, picking his spots? He definitely didn't move through MOsley like he did against Judah or anyone else, he timed Mosley more, and he countered effectively going back in the 11th.

Also how can you not see Mosley giving Mayweather a harder fight is beyond me... He has a higher chance of cornering Mayweather, and of using speed and combinations to overwhelm Mayweather than Cotto has of wearing Mayweather down. Cotto is a great figher, and would give Mayweather a good fight, but I can see Mosley actually potentially beating Mayweather whereas I can see Cotto making it close, but ultimately not being able to corner Mayweather enough to win the rounds to beat PBF.

Sorry you, guys were right about the early rounds I had it 4-2-1 for Cotto... my bad I wasn't reading my score sheet properly, but I do feel Mosley's body punching in the first to rounds was impressive. my apologies about that to Bilbo, and Eagle about that.

Cotto won the fight & pretty much all of the early rounds. I have watched the fight three times now & I gave Mosley a lot more love then I should have because Cotto was bullying him around the ring & busted him up pretty good.

Cotto moved backwards yes...but Miguel pretty often does when he get's pressured by another fighter...it was give & take & Cotto gave just as good as he took. I think you need to rewatch the match. Mosley's face & demeanor showed who pressured who the best & also at the end of the bout he even stated how Cotto put a hurting on him & pressure was more than what he had expected.

It was the 8th or 9th round that Mosley gained the upper hand because something went wrong with Cotto. He says it was nothing...but everyone watching the fight saw Cotto change. I still say that he either fwocked up his hand or something like that.

That was when Cotto started having trouble.

Sorry...but Mosley's one of the most skilled boxers of our decade. He might not be what he was...but that doesn't make him overratted.

I hate to say this...because I hate to hear it said in a discussion on this site...but as for him getting hit against Wright & Forrest...what do you expect?

Wright & Forrest are two of the better boxers out there. Forrest was known for being a tuff customer...I have no clue WTF was going on against Mayorga...but everyone has their night I guess.

You must not have seen Cotto's early career. I say that, & assume that you have not due to the fact that you give me the impression that you think Cotto is just a pressure power brawling fighter. Cotto is an accomplished boxer. His first 20 fights, prior to HBO convincing him he needed to be Tito, he was known for being a skilled boxer.

All the writers were salivating over his skills & I stated that he needed to fight like he did back in the day to beat Mosley.

Honestly...I never expected him to...& really didn't think that it would make a difference.

Actually...I have always said that Mosley would give Floyd his tuffest fight to date. Floyd has a better defense than Cotto & he's faster...but Cotto got to Mosley & I say that Floyd would too. Not sure if you have even watched the fight...due to your comments...but Mosley didn't throw an abundant amount of combo's against Cotto last night...what makes you think he would against Floyd?

You have some fair points Wacko... and I am just trying to seriously get your opinion, not trying to prove you wrong or anything because I respect what you have to say.
I watched the fight again and I had Cotto winning by 1, but some of those rounds are so hard to give to either guy because Mosley would win the first minute and a half and Cotto would win the last, and its easier to give to the guy who is stronger later in the round. I felt both the first and second time watching the fight that no quesiton Cotto was bullying Mosley more than vice virsa until whatever happened, but I don't believe whatever it was just magically happened, I think Mosley's punches wore Cotto down, to a degree.

I can honestly say I haven't seen Cotto's first 20 fights, but I have seen him from Corley up till now, and the Maussa fight. He was a good boxer, but he has really improved in this aspect as he's come along he hasn't just maintained at a certain level, but from the fights I've seen he has been a puncher-boxer, but more of a puncher, but even a good boxer like Collazo has a hard time catching Mosley because of his speed.

As for Mosley, I think he is a great fighter, and one of the best fighters of the last decade, but I think he would always a lot of trouble against a pure boxer who isn't afraid of the situation... Collazo whether it was because he hurt his hand or whatever was really gun shy, and he was doing well early on, and something obviously changed and it wasn't all Mosley. Mosley isn't a pure boxer in any shape or form because he is too much of a warrior. If he gets hit he will try to respond right away at the risk of getting hit again. IMO he is too offensive minded, and he doesn't use enough footwork to be a pure boxer, he has always been a puncher-boxer. As for against Wright, and Forrest its understandble for him to lose against them, I think they would give anyone a run for their money at the time he fought either of them, but he was the smaller man, and he couldn't adjust to being the smaller man which is another thing a pure boxer can do, when Mayweather moved up to welterweight and junior middleweight he has been able to succeed at these weights because he can stay away, and not get hit. Oscar Dela Hoya was able to become a more pure boxer as he moved up in weight which also helped him, but MOsley continued to fight the same way he did when he was at the smaller weights except that he wasn't able to get his combinations off anymore.

About why I think Mosley can get Mayweather backed up on the ropes a lot more than against Cotto. Look how many combinations Oscar got off on Mayweather when he got him on the rope, and thats because Mayweather doesn't have the power to keep Mosley off of him, and also unlike Cotto, its not in Mayweather best interest to trade punches with Mosley so he would back off. Styles make fights, and I think Mosley would realize he can't outbox Mayweather from the outside because of Mayweather's timing, defense, and superior jab, but with his speed he could find more success in situations where Oscar would miss 9 punches and get countered.
