Default I Don't Think Tyson Was Great Inside Fighter

I think he did his work better with a bit of distance if you see even his best performance's like with Berbick he don't really throw punches on inside and he allows Berbick to tie him up he does his best work with a bit of distance thats one of the reason's why he lost against Holyfield because he doesn't throw many punches head to head with his opponents and thats why Holyfield was able to beat him on the inside and tie him up i know people may think im totally wrong or ect but does anyone else agree ??

    Yes and no
He had to get in past the absolute jab range so he could work,so for the guy he was fighting, that feels like inside
But he didnt go shoulder to shoulder, because he doesnt have the height to really lean on a guy

?? Mike could be tied up on the inside when tired.. .. but he was a terrific inside fighter. his trademark hook to the body / upper cut combonation was fantastic. watch his match with Bruno. he did some great work on the inside in that match.

His combinations were all thrown on the inside but he also got tied up pretty easy. The style he had was to make fighters miss get off a couple shots and get out or inside and tie up without getting hit again.

Im not saying Tyson wasn't good on inside but if you actually watch his fights he doesn't throw many punches when he is head to head with his opponent and that allows his opponent's to tie him up on inside and like i said thats one of the reason's why Holyfield beat him i think he does his work better with a bit of distance.

I see what you saying,, he would bob and weave outside and then move in on an opening yes ! .. but the truth is distance was his greatest enemy, “ Lewis match” , the only punches a guy 5"11 can land are inside punches, its due to the mathematics of range and reach

In his post prison days Tyson was up for throwing wide punches and looping overhand rights. In his prime he threw some wide punches but not in his combination punching...the uppercuts and hooks he threw were powerful and very quick

I agree with you, and I had a topic similar to this before... Tyson was easy to tie up on the inside because he waited for an openning. THere was a perfect space inside a taller fighter's range, and not inside fighting where Mike excelled, but on the inside he just didn't throw enough if he was able to move his opponent around and do what he wanted to. Holyfield didn't let him, and neither did a few others, and Tyson was totally baffled when he wasn't allowed to work on the inside.

You're right he wasn't a GREAT inside fighter.
But he is one of the BEST at it. I think what your referring to was the Tyson we started seeing a litte more late in his reign as champ.
Early Tyson I know you've seen his fights was all about the inside work. Fast powerful combos on the inside you can see it in all of his highlight videos on YouTube.

....other than Marvis Frazier and perhaps Trevor Berbick I can't tell you many guys that Tyson worked over on the inside

Tyson in his prime used to throw his shots on the way in.

Once he got inside he used to try and force his opponents back to make room for his punches, then let them rip.

Tell me a good inside fighter that he worked over on the inside? Also he totally owned Marvis Frazier in every aspects... Marvis blew away like dust in the wind.

...there are none. Like everyone he needs space to get his shots off and when he got in too close he would just get tied up. You see his fights vs guys like Larry Holmes he did most of his damage leaping in with hooks, uppercuts, and overhand rights

    That fight was Joes fault
Joe got it in to his head that Marvis had to be more of a slugger.Talk about the wrong opponent to try it out on
Marvis was a tippy tap,out pointer, but Joe gets it in to his head that Marvis has got to get in there and brawl
Bad timing, but,oh well, you can still understand Marvis on the phone so it couldnt have been that bad

Tyson was too obliging in the clinches and had truoble getting off on the inside later in his career.

Just because 90% of his opponents went backwards, dosent mean Tyson wanted to be on the inside.
