Default Cotto wins Fighter of the Year!

Fight fans for the third straight year voted world welterweight champion Miguel Cotto the 'Fighter of the Year' on Fox Sports Premios. Cotto, who lives and trains in Caguas, Puerto Rico, accepted the award last night in Miami. "This is a great honor and very special to me as it comes from the fans. It shows that hard work will always be rewarded," said Cotto. "We are thrilled, as the fans have spoken," said Bob Arum of Top Rank. In 2007, Cotto defeated Oktay Urkal (TKO 11) in a mandatory defense, Zab Judah (TKO 11) in a riveting battle at Madison Square Garden followed by a win over Sugar Shane Mosley (W 12) at Madison Square Garden.

I'm sure it was a hard choice to make but Cotto deserves it as much as the next man. Congratz Cotto.

I would have said Pavlik would have won it as he has fought 3 times this year and won the middleweight title. Cotto beat my favourite fighter Shane Mosley which I didnt think he would do especially beating Shane to the jab so I suppose he deserves it.

Congrats to Cotto. As someone else said, he deserved it as much as the next guy. Would have liked to see Pavlik get it, but because he didn't doesn't diminish what he did and Cotto worked damn hard for it too.

    Cotto in 2007

    Shane Mosley
    Zab Judah
    Oktay Urkal

    Pavlik in 2007

    Edison Miranda
    Jermain Taylor
    Jose Luis Zertuche

I think Pavlik deserved it because he came out of nowhere he was the underdog against Miranda not a lot of people expected him to win that fight. And he destroyed Miranda which no one expected him to do, he was also the underdog against Taylor and he destroyed Taylor in impressive fashion. And now alot of people think he is the future of Middleweight division if you would of told people that at the start of 2007 that would have laughed there ass off. I think based on the things i just mentioned Pavlik deserved it.

Pavlik doesn't deserve shit... i promise you KNOW he will go down as another over hyped american who aint shit... SC all you fan boys but this guy is lacking a stupid amount of things he needs to make it it is unreal... he KO'd a guy most of whom dont even believe should of come to that ring as the champion... shit taylor JUST won a fight over cory spinks at a weight spinks should not even joke about fighting at.

There is only one Fighter of the year and the official result (the ring) will prove me right on this... Flord Mayweater Jr..

You named who Cotto beat, now lets see... Urkal? who exactly? Judah? the same Zab floud already beat? the same zab baldi already beat? sure he was given a chance, he is a big name and not everyone loves cotto...

Now Floyd... Steps up, beats De La hoya... now prime for prime at that weight i'm picking oscar everytime... but even so, that was a hell of a result for floyd coz floyd is not even close to being at his best at LMW... destorys ricky hatton... any floyd fan would know the first few rounds would be close ish, or even hatton taking them as floyd starts slow... this is 2 p4p fighters going at it, and truth be told, floyd fucking embaressed hatton in that fight, end of IMO...

Floyd beat an absolute legend this year. He then went on to beat the absolute champion at the weight below with ease...

This isn't in the note my guess is the writer missed mentioning it but "Premios Fox Sports" are ONLY awarded to "Latin/Latino" athletes.

Just thought I'd point that out......

HAHAHAHA Well that puts a new spin on this hole argument.

Now that I think about it. Calderon should've won that one.

Talk about throwing your toys out of your pram. I mean come off it your acting ridiculous and going way over the top, Taylor didn't look great in a few of his previous fights but he looked damn impressive for Pavlik fight. It looked like the old Taylor to me and it was amazing fight in which Pavlik won dramatically.

You named who Cotto beat, now lets see... Urkal? who exactly? Judah? the same Zab floud already beat? the same zab baldi already beat? sure he was given a chance, he is a big name and not everyone loves cotto...

Urkal is very tough fighter that went 12 rounds with Kostya Tszyu,he lost x2 to Vivian Harris but he is still durable fighter and isn't an easy too look good against, Judah has lost some of his biggest fights yes. But he is still very talented fighter and Cotto beat the leaving crap out of him in impressive fashion even better than what Mayweather done to Judah.

Now i'll end this by saying Pavlik come out of nowhere and was big underdog against Miranda. Who was supposed to be the next big thing in Middleweight division. Taylor may of not looked good in a couple of his fights but he still beat Hopkins x2 and had a draw against one of the best defensive fighters of our time Winky Wright, Pavlik knocked Taylor senseless in impressive fashion, now people think Pavlik will be the next dominant Middleweight champion if you would of said that to people early in 2007 that would have told you don't know anything about boxing or etc.

Good choice in cotto he deserves it but how the hell could pavlik come out of nowhere and have a better year than he had this year all things considered, i wouldnt be upset at either winning.
