Default Does anybody think Hopkins can beat Calzaghe?

IMO Joe wins this fight easy.

Even in Hopkins prime Calzaghe would have a very good chance at beating him.

The best way to beat a counter puncher is to throw puches in 2 or 3s.But Calzaghe throws them in 5 and 6s.

    Hopkins has no chance.

Dont be suprised if Hopkins backs out of this fight last minute.

CALZAGHE is bigger stronger faster and better looking. Even at his peak Hopkins would stand no chance against CALZAGHE. Joe has been one of the most underated champs ever and its only in the last few years people are realising just how good he is.

It wouldn't suprise me at all if Hopkins was the betting favourite in the states.

I don't think he has much chance but the yanks will doubtless assume he will win.

Sure calzaghe is great but even the guys who know how great joey is but talk boxing all day every day and know theyr stuff have been caught up in the hype

    .. Calzaghe wins easy?

    Nobody beats hopkins easy

Joe couldnt have a harder fight if he matched prime for prime against so many people or waited ten years past his prime for the next big superstar..

And about the 5 6 7 punches.. You tell me who ever hit bernard hopkins with more then 2 or 3 punches at the most!?

Exactly.. And the thread is actually shocking me.. Lol.. No diss to joe hes great but the thread should be does anybody think that Joey C can beat bernard..

Hopkins can beat anybody at any given time. He is that good.

However, given his age and the fact that Calzaghe will most likely be the most skilled fighter he has faced since Jones, the odds are very slim.

wow, I guess I'm streching out a limb here but I do think Hopkins can beat Calzaghe. People counted him out against an undefeated Tito and somewhat against Winky as well but he managed to pull through. I don't know...I think the old man still has a bit left in his tank and may take it Calzaghe.

I suspect Joe would win a close decision but Hopkins' style is almost impossible to look good against, or dominate.

Hopkins can lower Joe's output with his movement, if Joe could trap Hopkins then maybe he could let off five or six punches in a row but Hopkins is hard to trap.

Plus Hopkins knows every trick, and is as rough as they come and Joe has seemed to be bothered by that in the past.

I suspect actually Hopkins would land the cleaner punches with his right hands but Joe would get a decision by outworking him but he wouldn't dominate. Joe has never faced a guy with the defensive skills and smarts of Hopkins, its not even close, nobody in the same ballpark. In fact, has he ever faced a good to great defensive fighter at all? Eubank was good but not anywhere on Hopkins' level defensively. Kessler's solid enough but I wouldn't consider him a great defensive fighter by any means, he's more impressive offensively. Actually now that I think about it, no, he's never faced a very good-great defensive fighter, definitely no one on Hopkins' level.

All that being said, judges favor activity and even though Hopkins will cut Joe's output he'll probably still do enough to get the judges decision in a close fight.

Winky got robbed in that fight. Hopkins should have been DQ'ed in half his fights.

I dont see it even being close. Calzaghe is right at the zenith of all he can be. Hopkins gets dominated and cruelly.

Will be a final paycheck for Hopkins, I suppose.

A strange way for him to go out, Ive always liked Hopkins a lot. He just cannot hang with this Calzaghe though. Too busy and with the brains to make it work when it counts.

The only thing Hopkins can do is to try and off set Calzaghe's rhythm with clinches, and dirty fighting. The only problem is that Hopkins is nowhere near active enough to keep up with someone like Calzaghe. Plus Calzaghe punches from all different angles, it will be a rough night for Calzaghe, but i don't see how Hopkins can win to be honest.

I would really be suprised if Hopkins won 3 rounds of this fight.. He cheated Winky out of his last fight. Fighters have been known to finally get to old in a matter of 2 rounds and I think with Calzaghe's workrate and speed this is the end of Hopkins hour glass..

I agree though Hopkins will try to back out at the last minute

Hopkins: Calzaghe at the start of this decade would have been awesome and more of a pick 'em. Now its just Calzaghe all the way. I will still be a little bit surprised if Hopkins actually goes through with this. He usually picks his opponents so carefully.
