Default I give Roy Jones credit for a statement he made tonight!!!!

I am sure many of you out there seen FNF tonight....did everyone who seen it catch Roy Jones comments at the end?

He said he hopes Calzaghe Hopkins comes off but if not he will buy a ticket the day after the Triniadad fight....

When Kinney asked him in the studio about going to Wales Jones said..."I'm There"...Ready to go the day after the Trinidada fight...

Then Kinney asked him about why he would not go those years in the past? and Jones flat out said

"I had everything to lose back then. Calzaghe didn't. Now I need to prove something"

He could have danced around it..he could have given BS excuses or whatever but he laid it out honestly...Why should he have risked everything. I can agree with that to a point...but I respect his honesty....I wish more guys would just flat out state stuff like that....Just be honest

Good thread! I was gonna make one to give him props, but ya beat me to it. I love it, he put B-Hop on the spot by saying he would go to Wales, thats gonna hurt Bernard at the negotiating table...lol.

Jones' skills have slipped to the point where he would no longer be competitive against either Hopkins or Calzaghe IMO.

Every fight he's had since the Ruiz fight he has looked like a shadow of the old Roy Jones.

He could also say "Im not what I once was....And I would NOW travel to any backyard to grasp for it again" Good call Daxx ,Love the straight talk from RJJr.
He really does not have to prove anything to the fans,Just himself Imo.
He railed on Quinn vs. Williams ,"He does not want to punch and looks like he does not want to get hit hard Anymore." Was that him or Kenney? Irony abounds.

I'm not quite sure what the issue here is. Is it why a Jones-Calzaghe never happennned? Does Calzaghe only fight in the UK? Why was it Jones' responsibility to go the the UK as opposed to vice versa, when Jones was the champion and/or main attraction?

"He's fighting too methodically, he's fighting like a robot in there, and you cant win that way", I always liked RJJ as a commentator, he should get into that for sure when he retires. He seemed like he's got a little chip he's gotta knock off his shoulder, like he wants to prove the critics wrong. I would love to see RJJ Vs. Calzaghe in Millenium stadium, nice.

I really dont see Jones going over seas after Tito "event" .
Your right No Contest,I love Roy's moxie but I believe his delivery will be "wanting".
Calzaghe makes him look 80 years old IMO.It says alot that Jones has been wanting Tito fight aka payday even before Hopkins destroyed Tito. 6 years ago.He was calling out for that S!!!

In the last few years Jones seemed to really mature as a person. He is much more realistic now and seems to understand what point his career is at rght now. I cant say the same for Tito so maybe that will be the difference in this fight. Jones makes the proper adjustments and Tito may not.

No he isn't what he once was and he knows it,,,does not come straight out and say it but little thngs like last night lets everyone know he knows he is not and he is not pretending to be....I agree Jones is a bit punch shy now a days....CC for the reply

Absolutly agree about Roy maturing....TBH I never was a real Jones fan,,,respected his skills of course but not a fan of his...I have become one though over the last yr...I like him on HBO IMO he is prety good at the announce table...He brings in boxing knowledge but he is not a know it all either...he can throw in some good banter as well...CC

Yeah Roy was about the most exciting factor in last nights FNF's Sounded like he'd like to shut Hopkins mouth as well; but I wouldn't mind seeing him and Joe go at it, depending on how he looks against Tito. Ahhh, what could have been a few years back if these guys would have fought

Hey, anyone see that kid pulling the MMA moves against that other guy Dawson in the second fight? Man that guy needs to learn to control his temper; I thought he was going to crack the ref when he DQ'd him

And Quinn is finished, what a lackluster performance to put it nicely

roy is absolutely right, why should he be the one to go across the atlantic when it is him that is on top of the world. that was a perfect reply by jones. Its joe that needs to answer that same question, why shouldn't he come fight the best in america instead of the lesser oppenents in his home CONTINENT.

Wow, Jones will be fighter of the year for 2008. He will TKO Tito, then decision Calzaghe. Book it.

Same as when Jones dodged a fight with Nigel Benn.

I have said it before on this site,Jones is regretting not making the most of his prime.

Roy is a fucking warrior... everyone knows i'm a huge calzaghe fan, but when roy said a few months ago he would come here and people said he wouldn;t. i said then roy would. Always said when it came to roy, he was to big, joe was to good but unknown... can understand that... but Roy would come to Wales given a decent split now... Guys like Roy dream o fight even now in front of 50k+ fans or not, when that bell goes you are all alone.

I must admit I was somewhat surprised to see these comments surface, and although I haven't seen any of them myself, I'm sure Daxx's word is good enough for all.

It takes a big man to front up and say it happened as it did, like RJJ has done here. It does seem that as the years go on the accusations of Calzaghe ducking do seem to fall by the wayside, and although I'm sure it'll never be killed off completely, its nice to hear RJJ say that it was he who scuppered the bout which Calzaghe was chasing between around 2001-03.

Depending on RJJ's showing against tito, it could still happen, but RJJ needs a really big performance to show that he's back on the scene. If not, I liked his appearance as a commentator and pundit recently, and though he was very eloquent and insightful if he does turn his back on fighting himself.
