I see this fight today and Mayweather out boxed Sanchez clearly in the first 2 rounds. The 3rd round Sanchez won but it wasn't enough to win the fight, how Sanchez won 12-11 escapes me.

Amatuer Fights are not won on rounds.

Yes i know that because i have had 1 fight in the Amateurs Scrap, but i had Mayweather clearly ahead on points after 2 rounds. And even though Sanchez did win a close 3rd round that was nowhere near enough to win the fight IMO.Originally Posted by Scrap
I think a lot of top fighters got robbed in the ams at some point.
Sanchez went to get ko'd by Naz and Mayweather went on to be p4p #1, so when you put it like that.....who really won?

Mayweather faced Sanchez 3 times in the amateurs Mayweather won twice. Mayweather was also robbed in the Semi Finals of the Olympics.Originally Posted by ono

That last round Mayweather was too chilled. He laid back on the ropes too much if I remember correctly and didn't throw much. Havn't seen that fight in a while though. There are a lot of desisions in amateur's that can leave you baffled..I just hate amateur judges for being so fucking old and dicrepid (spelling?)
Amateur's is usually fast and furious so how those 95 year old judges keep an eye on the punches befuddles me!
When I went to the novice finals in York Hall a month back, one of the fucking judges disapeared after the opening bell! The ref noticed after about 30 seconds, stopped the fight and made motions like 'where the fuck did that judge go??'..he'd fucked off to get a drink! Idiots..that could have been the difference between lottery funding or not for one poor amateur. Lucky the ref spotted it.
So how are amatuer rounds scored and what is the criteria? Landed punches and the most landed wins?
I think Mayweather got a bit too over confident and made a mistake by standing toe to toe with Sanchez in the last round. But i still don't think Sanchez deserved to win it, because IMO Mayweather had quite a big lead after 2 rounds, and its not like Sanchez dominated the 3rd round.Originally Posted by Althugz

Boxing scoring guide
Scoring blows must land on the head or on the body, above the belt
Each ringside judge has a computer scoring button to press for each boxer, and three of the five must hit their button within one second of each other for the point to register.
When boxers are fighting up close, called infighting, a point is awarded to the boxer with the best of the exchanges.
Non-scoring blows include punches that infringe the rules, punches that use any part of the glove except the knuckles, and those which do not have the weight of the body or shoulder behind them.
Its all numbers.I try not to blur the lines between Pros and Amatuers. Two different worlds really.Up until recently I believe the system was such that to "score" a punch all three judges had to hit a button within A second or so for it to count. And dont even mention body puch credits,Not really given respect to much.Originally Posted by El Gamo
