Default First time watching Mayweather vs Hatton on TV since being there live..Cortez..

Ok its the first time I've watched the PBF vs Hatton fight since seeing it live..just a few observations..

    * I must admit Joe Cortez did seem nervous for the first 2 rounds..I didn't notice it on fight night but he was stopping things very quickly in the first 2 rounds..then he settled down. My only beef is that people say this benefitted Floyd? Bullshit..there were plenty of times that Floyd was getting the better of Ricky on the inside and Cortez stepped in to break his momentum. He was being fair and warning both fighters but the point taken off was very surprising. So apart from that and the first 2 rounds he did a good job. Like people said..ray Hatton could have been reffing and Hatton would still have got knocked out.

    * I didn't realise how much Floyd was getting tagged early on and some what in the middle rounds..this surprised me..Ricky did better than I thought and the rounds were closer than I gave Ricky credit for originally.

    * Round 8 - WOW! I nearly forgot about this round..what a display of dominance by Floyd. He was going up and down with combinations and all Ricky could do was cover up because he didn't know wether Floyd was coming or going. Best round of the fight. Great heart by Ricky..but a 10-8 round for me.

*It wasn't a great fight..I thought it was better than it was. Very messy but obviously being there live clouds your perspective. Being there was just something else.

    DISCUSS..

Good post. Ricky did ok but he just ain't like he used to be.
I said it before but Rick was mentally wound up by Floyd and he was done come fight night, all his energy was gone very quickly. Floyd really got under his skin I feel. Floyd looked in trouble at times but he was waiting for Rick to get tired out, Floyd knew what he was doing and i doubt he expected to knock out Rick but it was as perfect a punch as you will ever see......or not see in Ricks case.

I'm still very proud of Ricky for taking the fight though, no shame in losing to the best. It was a fight many wanted to see so it's all good.

I have watched the fight many times and it was an ok battle. I did however find myself getting frustrated with the fact that Cortez was saying no holding Ricky and Ricky was not even the one holding a lot of the time. It was like he was just saying it for the sake of saying it but Ricky is not a 100% holder like people claim and the only reason they would say such a thing is becuase they have only watched 3 of Ricky's fights. I was also very frustrated with Joe because he gave Floyd enough warnings about the ELBOWS to warrant a point deduction. There were times when Cortez did not even warn Floyd about the elbows and he was right there on top of the action seeing the elbow being used as an offensive weapon and not as a defensive manuever as stated later by Cortez. There was also a real blow to the back of Hatton's head in which Cortez did nothing. I come away with a very ugly feeling after watching this fight. Ricky really had no plan B or C and it was just the same thing over and over again. I do agree that Floyd showed momments of greatness but they were not as many for someone who claims to be the worlds greatest ever. Floyd is a very dirty fighter and that is why I want to see him fight Cotto because I know Cotto can be just as nasty and ruthless and will give Floyd a fight no one would soon forget. But since Floyd fears Cotto and Floyd sucked Cotto's stick after the Ricky Hatton fight in the interview with Merchant, I am led with a strong feeling that this fight will never, EVER take place no matter how much we as boxing fans demand this fight, Floyd will come up with his stupid bullshiet about not enough money or who is Cotto routine. BTW. I was also frustrated with Cortez because not once did he tell Floyd that bending so low (BELOW your opponents waist line is ILLEGAL) Not one warning
Also putting your hands out in front of you and in a persons face and or throat area is also ILLEGAL and so is the elbow to the throat and yet there were no warnings what so ever about those illegal tactics of the P4P pu$$y If Floyd was here right now, I would eat the biatch like the v@gina she is

The ducking below the belt line thing was shit. Clever, but shit and classless.
