Thread: Roy Jones Jr And The Balco Scandal ??

The Balco scandal was found shortly after John Ruiz fight wasn't it ?? and after Balco scandal Jones started to look much slower and weaker even in the body against Tarver etc. Can someone give me some information on this ?? because Jones is one of my favorite fighters of all time and i would hate to hear that he had steroids throughout his career.

Yes i know but it wasn't only in the 1st Tarver fight he looked nothing like the old Roy Jones after Balco scandal, thats why i want more information on it before i make my mind up.

Mosley was more involved with the Balco thing than Jones. Jones only tested positive once along with Richard Hall.

You also have to understand that Jones was in his mid 30's...and I don't care who you are to put on and then take off 20+ lbs of muscle in less then a yr takes its toll on the body....Also it was so evident on Jones because Roy was never a guy that relied on the normal boxing...EG a Barrera, Lewis or DLH style kind of way....Where he worked off the jab and kept his hands up for defense...Jones always relied on his natural ability...so it was just more apparent then anything....

Reguardless though....The amount of time Jones was said to be using balco was really not long enough to have much of an effect on him...it was very very short term

I don't any steroids had anything to do with jones performance against tarver or johnson. Tarver and johnsons style are what cause him trouble. Tarver wouldn't just let jones counter him, he would banged him up at every chance he got. Johnson just took it to jones after knowing how vulnerable jones was with someone in his face and not giving him room to be roy jones. Jones also went through some kind of soul searching, he didn't appear to want to fight either tarver or johnson. It seem like he wanted to look cute for the crowd more then fight his oppenent.

CAn't take nothing from tarver, he printed a blue print on how to give roy trouble.

Give me a break Jules plenty of guys as good as Johnson and Tarver tried to pressure Jones, but all of them failed, want a southpaw with speed, Reggie Johnson tried to pressure Jones only to get countered, Gonzalez who is bigger and stronger than Johnson tried to pressure Jones, Iron chined Merqui Sosa tried to pressure JOnes, one think they all had in common was that they ended up on the canvas, two of them for the first time. Even in the first Jones-Tarver fight you could tell when Jones fought sort of like himself in certain places that Tarver had no answers for a prime RJJ, let alone Glen Johnson, I mean if you need any more proof look at Clinton Woods before Roy went up to heavyweight, Clinton is as good as Glenn or in the same league, and Roy made him look like rubbish.

Anyways on to the topic, I am pretty sure Roy took drugs one type or another to get up to the weight he did so quickly, its virtually impossible to add that much weight without steroids.

are u kidding me buddy? a prime jones would of tore both tarver and johnson a new one! and they both know that.

i do agree that jones in more recent fights after RUIZ especially did care to play to the crowd more so than stopping opponents.

not getting all theoretical, tarver was the first to give roy trouble like that. Roy is Roy, it doesn't take just about anybody to give him trouble under any circumstance. thats why I give tarver props, he took it to roy at the right moments. Despite roy winning the first fight, tarver still gave him hell. I rather not think of any excuses for roy, rather not say he was weight drain, he was old and especially not taint roy with that balco scandal. i rather remember it as tarver being jones buster douglas. it has a better historical story line. Both knew eachother since they were younger and tarver used roys success as motivation to dethrone him.

CC,good posting.I totally agree,a prime jones destroys Tarver and Johnson. They had no blue print on Jones,how can anyone lay out a blue print on how to beat Superman?You can't.He beat himself by not retiring after going to HW and I think that has affected his legacy alot. Wins over Trinidad,Ajmu,Henshaw don't make up for those 2 devestating losses.

He has failed drug tests on numerous occasions throughout his career long before the recent scandal broke. Even in his absolute prime he tested positive and the findings were suppressed to the shame of the boxing authorities. He's been on the junk since the beginning, no question about it.

shut up thats not true jones is my heroe.

i know he failed a drug test after a fight and they did nothing, no ban, the other guy failed to. roy was always looked after the 88 olympics due to his being robbed, after that judges always gave him benefit of the dbout in close fights, as a result he was let of clean when tested positive for drugs, after that he looked human once it came out and he wasn't juiced
