    Default New Goal...Part Two.

    In the space of time between September 2007 and Febryuary 2008 I ket a log/diary, here at Saddo's. This diary served to record all the preparation and feelings I had in the buildup to my bid at a National Title. (note; this isn't a Charlie Zelenoff thread)
    The support I got was just incredible. Every day i logged on I had new words of encouragement and advice on how to improve. Having shared my preparation with you guys, I was rewarded by winning the Nationals on the 9th, 10th and 11th of February.

    The next step on in the amateurs is the highest level. The Seniors. These are guys looking to qualify for the Olympics and world Championships. In order to be competitive with them I would need to get sponsored and live the life of a professional.
    But to be honest I don't want to be a super amateur. I want to get into the pros and bang with paid guys, with plenty of rounds to dish out punishment and take it too. Three and four round fights don't attract me at all. I'm giving the amateurs a year and a half more and then I'm going to attempt going pro.

    So in this thread I'll try and record my training and progress. You guys don't have to comment or anything, the fact that I'm logging it all is help enough for me. But any advice on training, nutrition or the business would really be appreciated.

    My first night back boxing since before the flu took hold.
    (Olympic Boxing Club, Galway.)

    Shadowboxing;
    4 x 2minute rounds working combinations and defence.

    Bagwork;
    3 x 2 minute rounds on a nice light bag, working combinations.
    1 x 2 minute round working the heavy bag with similar combinations.

    Defense work;
    4 x 2 minute rounds ducking under a rope, moving forward and backward employing relevant and suitable combinations.

    Sparring;
    3 x 2 minute rounds with an exceptionaly good 19 year old southpaw.
    Although he was better and fasterwell keeping him at a distance and defending. I also managed to work a right cross to his body and potentially could be better than him as I get sharper. Need to work on Tactics!

    Movement;
    Holding the pads for a young boxer, I worked my movement, allowing him to chase and then retreat, it work pretty well and improves my foot Coordination.

    Padwork;
    1 single two minute round on the pads with my trainer John.
    I was wrecked afterward and It's clear to me now he is the best trainer in Ireland. Worked a beautifulFive punch combination inside thats practical and easily employed against southpaws and also some power punches for up top.

    Cooldown and stretching.
    A nice thirty minute walk in the rain then!

    Took a Protein and Glutamine shalke afterward.

    Last night I couldn't train, had a funeral to go to. I hadn't anticipate doing any roadwork this week as I have a fight Sunday, but I did a four miler at home, nice and easy boxing jog. At the gym later.

    Felt like Hell yesterday evening. Dragged myself to the gym, looked pale and just unwell.

    Bagwork;
    -3 x 2min rounds, combinations and speed.
    -1 x 2min round; heavy bag combinations and speed.

    Shadowboxing;
    -5 x 2 minute rounds; Combinations, footwork, headmovement.

    Anaerobic;
    -3 x 100m Sprints with a partner.
    Won 2 lost one (becasue he got ahead and wouldn't let me pass.)
    -Calf raises.

    Defense work;
    -4 x 2 minute rounds; Weaving under rope throwing combinations each side, moving forward & back.

    Sparring;
    -3 x 2 min rounds; with the same southpaw, I boxed in reverse as I usually do with Southpaws, found that inefffective so moved forward. Lande a fair few grazing blows. Movement and defense sharpening. Pretty reserved spar, but happy nonetheless.
    Afterwards felt like vomiting, but because of health rather than exertion.

    Bagwork;
    -1 x 3 minute round on the heavybag. Hard punching, flurries.

    Stretching and Cooldown.

    Training went well last night.

    Did it at a really high pace and was pumping air after a while.

    During the spar session I was sparring Jim, who's got three inches on me, orthodox, power but poor technique.
    I started to tire, was getting clipped....needed a break
    I jabbed twice, turned and jab straight uppercut to the body....down goes Jimmy and I get a nice two minute break.
    Kept the activity high.
    Sparred the novice. He actually stopped hitting my guard. He said "aren't you hurt" looking to grab a break, I shook my head and smiled, I plowed into him with my guard up, backing him up. Threw only three shots and he tumbled each time.
    Pat of course was a different story. We traded counters, he landed some picture perfect shots to the chin, I set up by crossing to his body, but failed to hook to his head. We made it a messt spar, but I was delighted with it.

    Afterward myself and pat went on the mats, practisingf takedowns, sprawling and defence. 5 minutes of defending from him had me well tired and perspiring, but it was brilliant fun!

    This morning I'm sore from sprints and mat work, my thighs are stiff and sore, so I regard last night as an excellent success.

    Dude the fact you're making little goals and achieving them is something to be proud of. You're extremely deicated and its really good to see. Using the boards to post your training schedules is good for your diary, but its also good for us as we can see exactly what an amateur goes through. I truly hope you make it. You're one of the best posters on here. You never try to piss anyone off, always knowledgable and come across as a very honest person. All the best for it, and I will come and see you fight one day.

    Repped.
