Default Looking for any tips, advice on vid

Hi have been reading a bit here and am looking for any advice from trainers or seasoned fighters. I'm 13 years old from Canada and have been boxing for over a year and 1/2 and have only 2 fights to date santioned. So far it has been a breeze in my fights in the states with both 3-0 decisions. I've been training harder then ever the last 3 months or so but haven't fought for a long time as it is been hard to find people for the fights here. I finally have 2 fights coming up. One this Saturday out of town and one next month in town hopefully. I switched clubs in my town and this new club I like A LOT better and expecially becuz i'm now gettin fights!

Anyways I was hoping I could get some critque on my fightin as I got my spar from last weekend taped. The guy I'm sparring is another club member and is older (like 22-23) but with less experience. I honestly KNOW i coulda knocked him out in the first round as all I saw was his head every time he took a swing at me but only tried to stay focused on making shots and points and being disciplined, plus i don't think it woulda been too cool to go super hard.

I got a good trainer I respect and listen to, but hoped to get others thoughts too. I realize I still got alot to learn so fire away and tell me what you think and I appreciate any responses.

p.s. Wish me luck this Saturday in my fight!!!!

From what i could see you looked pretty good especially for a 13 year old, most kids ive seen around that age go berserk for the first round and then die pretty much. You did well, sometimes you kept your face completely unguarded in your flurries where you could have been countered easily, and it looked in the angle like your feet crossed over a few times which should never happen in the ring. But the guy didn't make you pay and you won easily, maybe up the frequency of your attacks?

Other than that looking good and good luck in the fight, (get the second person to video it next time the first guy was terrible haha)

Yea thanks Salty, I think it has been helpful to watch it because it is the first time I have actually seen what I look like fighting. I do need to work on defence as you say, for counter attacks and can see that now as you suggest. Part of the problem I have is getting good sparring and I don't get hit much, so I think that makes me less guarded. I'm wondering if there are ways to work on it outside of sparring?

As far as stepping up the attacks I certainly plan to on Saturday. For this fight/spar I realized soon into it that I could take him out, so I tried to make it last plus he is my own club member and we need to raise the moola to run and the crowd needed to see a match so we could get them back.

For the crossed feet thing, I hope I don't do that for I know it is bad and it'll get my ass sent to the mat. I was playin a bit in the 3rd round and dancing stupidly lol, I know...and my feet were close together as a result. I have no intention of anything like that for any santioned bouts. I'm guessing it is probably a bad thing to do tho, as in can cause bad habits to form? The dancing and playing stuff for spars?

I really appreciate the insights and the good luck for Saturday.

Won my 3rd fight and have some questions regarding it.

Firstly, is it usual for me to be fighting outside of my category? For eg. I should be fighting now in 13-14 but found myself up against a 15 turning 16 yr old. My first 2 fights I had when I was 12 years old and in grade 7 and both of those in Michigan I fought people in grade 10, or 15-16 years old. I don't mind it, because just finding a fight is hard for me. I am tall 6' and weighed in for this fight at 152 lbs. I am thinking or guessing it is my size as to why I keep getting matched up out of my age category? Even so, the person I fought this last match was even taller, at 6'3" or 6'4" and had 5 or more pounds on me. It was the first fight I have seen this, and it did challenge me.

Moreso what challenged me this last fight were 2 things in particular. The first was I hurt my lower back quite badly on Friday night at my club doing one of the longest glove workouts I have EVER done. Not sure why we worked so hard, because my trainer said he wanted me to rest and go easy 2 days before. I never realized how much I hurt myself until yesterday morning when I woke and could hardly bend down to pick things up. No way I wasn't going to fight, so tried to relax and stretch lots before the fight, right. But then about 15-20 minutes before the fight, my trainer wanted to warm me up and had me doing glove work really hard once again ....and I felt this just sapped me of atleast my best round of energy. I'm still not sure why I got worked so hard up right until I stepped in the ring. Is this normal? I only wanted to reserve my energy and stretch properly. I've never question my new trainer up until now.

Anyways, I got a good win as best I could given my limited power and what seemed like complete lack of the ability to move like I normally would. Any time i tried to move to my right I either couldn't properly or it just fricken hurt. I also got caught some hard shots, harder then ever before as I just couldn't seem to get away quick enough.

    my first split decision.

here's another thing, not that anyone fookin replies.

I think I had a hard time focusing this last fight on top of other things i think because of the lighting. I've only fought santioned up till yest. in a casino type darkened situation where it was easy to find a focus. Hit the dude all lit up in front of you! Yest we fought in the hosts gym with lights all on. Meh, I could see stuff going on and hear stuff yest. and was trying to not see it as i fought, but gawdammit i couldn't seem to.

Focus is easy to lose....which is why when you're tired you have to force yourself to focus even more and when you do that, the easier it is to focus when you're not tired and when you're actually fighting in a real fight

Alright they bud!You look really good for your age.You utilized some really good all round boxing skill. You could and should do really well in the quality sport of boxing if your willing to continue in the noble art game for a career. You had some really good punches rolling off your shoulder from what i seen of you in the video. Some good pressure on your apponant,"Keep that kind of pace up!"You were really composed during the fight and you'd picked your shots really good.Keep it up and try not get ahead of your self.Keep your opponant on the back foot as you did in your sparring,A tight guard for the counters coming in and throw you left sharp jab on the way in.The JAB is the Key to the door, always will be in boxing.Good luck in your next fight.I look forward to see and hear from it.All the best. You could be the next Steve Molitor"Canadian Kid!"

thanks for the replies all. any criticism i look for too. i really want to get back to training hard and want to keep improving but am being told i need to relax a bit and get over this injury so this might set me back abit for my next fight in a month.

And Pac, I have already fired my camera man (my dad) loll. he said he can't tape them anyway because he shakes every time i fight and would rather just watch. I have last weeks fight (same fight)that was taped from a diff. source and it is on tripod. Once yesterdays fight is online from my club I might make a link, but I really don't feel it is a very good representation. I seriously didn't have either my speed, strength or mobility. It may have been a mistake to even fight that injured and if i ran into a really good competitor it may have cost me.
