Have always wondered about this myself, who was more unreasonable in negotiations etc. If Roy really offered a split where 60 went to the winner, at any point in time, and Hopkins didn't take it, I'd say it's possible Hopkins just doesn't want to fight him again.. Don't see why at present, or even in recent years though. Hopkins had an excellent chance against Roy, and still does if he would choose to fight him.
I don't think many people are scared of Roy right now least of all old Bernard Hopkins
I think it is the case like Morales and Barrera that they despise one another so much that they do not want to do business.
I don't know, I think B-Hop is one of the few big names I see RJJ beating. B-Hop is too defensive now for me to believe he would be able to out fight Roy. Roy is a lot smarter than Calzaghe in terms of angles, and he is still faster than Calzaghe. I've always felt that B-Hop is really good at eliminating an opponent's speed, but even he can't eliminate Roy's speed.
The big 1-2 from Hopkins (headbutt and right cross) would really hurt RJJ
I think around 2001, both were scared of each other. Both were to blame for that fight not coming off, as each felt they had too much to lose.
roy was once great, but now just a shadow of the greatness, still hope he beats calzaghe. him and hopkins somwhow have not been able to split 20mill...................lets not forget roy was not prepaired to go 50-50 years earlier to fight hopkins when he knew b-hop would not take anything less on principle... i always saw thst as roys way off backing out the fight back then.......... these guys are always looking to put one over each other on negotiations so much so that they'll never except a proposal from the other
For sure, the only way Nard beats Roy is when he plays dirty. In a fair fight, Roy schools him. I mean, what can Nard do if you take away his propensity to hold, headbutt, and illegal punch? NOTHING.
Sweet Jesus this fight should never happen!!! It would just be two people backing up from each other never once coming within 2 feet cause neither of them will want to come forward. What would they call this fight? "Retirement Party" or "No One Cares Anymore."
I'm not sure I'm even scared of Roy at this point. (Do not tell him)
This fight would be the same as the first one, Roy wins a decision. Bernard can't KO him, and Roy is faster, has more power and accuracy than Joe C, not saying that Roy would beat Joe, but he would beat BHOP again. He's been there done that, like he said.
That's what I was trying to say is that the only thing IMO Roy can't deal with is an opponent who will go out there and throw 70 punches around or a good pressure fighter like Glen Johnson... I felt Roy if he would have been less timid would have beaten Tarver's ass in their third fight, the two rounds he did anything Tarver had no answer, and that was a better version of Tarver then B-Hop faced because he didn't just weight drain himself. Also I noticed that Roy is still really good at timing opponents, I think ROy would set up Bernard to throw that right hand, and Roy would step back and counter in a situation where Calzaghe isn't quite the same level of counterpuncher wouldn't be able to retaliate or even get out of the way of the punch. ROy is still fast in bursts just like Hopkins its just they both can't maintain it.
