I only have 3 santioned fights, and have had the last 4 santioned cancel on me. This will prob. come off as arrogant, but I have a hard time finding someone to fight me in my category or even close. The last person to duck me just finished winning a provincial medal (the equivalent to your golden glove). Still wouldn't fight.
I'm supposed to be going to Sudbury on June 14th for a match, and this already is not looking good. I do get fights, many as I can, but they are not santioned. And I have to fight people way out of my cat. age and experience wise. Oct. I get to fight santioned, no matter what. We're looking to set up anything before then, anything I can and are willing to travel to do it (reasonably).
We just don't have the #'s of people you have in the US. I've had to go there to get 2 santioned. I'd go right into open class now if they'd let me. I know I'd get smashed prob., but atleast it would be experience that I want.

Considering you're still novice you'd probably win. I know a few Canadian clubs make the trip every year. It would be worth looking in to tagging along with one of them. It's a great tournament and since it's a tournament they have to fight you. |

Punch Power: 3140 | | Re: Youngblood's Log. If it makes you feel any better, I have the same problem. The only girls who will fight me now are girls that are at least 10-15 pounds heavier or have twice the experience. You just have to have the attitude that you'll fight anyone no matter what the outcome. In the amateurs it's all about getting experience, you can't care about your record, it doesn't really matter. |

Punch Power: 48405 | | Re: Youngblood's Log. I did do 4 or so rounds of skipping tonight.
I'm kinda gassed today, with the headache and heatstroke, plus I was flirting full out with the grade 12 chics at the track meet. They were working all the things I was in it seemed. So every time I got to say like the long jump, they would ask..."Name, school, and number (athlete #)." wearing tight little shorts. So I would answer, Josh, my school name and give them my home ph. number. haha It was sorta fun.
Okie, Okie..back to training stuff. |

It is very easy to get off track and soon realize you haven`t worked out solid for 4-5 days. |

Punch Power: 48405 | | Re: Youngblood's Log. Back in the grove of working out. It is true that you really do feel stronger after even a little bit of a break. Have city finals tomorrow in track and field and it should be pretty easy, especially the 800m as it's cardio related.
Sigh, the boxing season is sorta ending here so everyone says. Hoping to pick up some fights but no one seems too motivated right now. Just usual local stuff and sparring.
Going to firmly set July 1 for a start of new routine. Not entirely sure which changes yet. Anyone's thoughts on bicep curls? I want to further strengthen arms, and feel I have a good base on the triceps and am looking to work other areas.
Sourpuss, if you read this, talked with coach about ringside tour and it is something we might seriously look at going to as a club next year. Hopefully having more time to raise the funds and properly prepare and so on. (Part of me wants to jump the border and make a run for this one on my own...) |

Punch Power: 3140 | | Re: Youngblood's Log. Yay! Do it! I'll work your corner, I'm certified to do so. I would be worth it if you can afford to go with another club. If you feel comfortable doing that sort of thing. I know when I first started I would only want my coach there but now as long as someone is there to squirt water in my mouth in between rounds I'll take what I can get.
Are there any clubs in your area that are going? |

I really kinda need some more info. I think I am more sorta pipe dreaming here in hoping to go. Hooking up with another club would be pretty difficult as I say, it is a 12 hr drive and a 3 month wait to get coaching certified and even then it is a town even further north in Northern Ontario. Do you have the fight card or anything from last year to look up clubs from Canada? I'm thinking more in that if I was going to do it, I would likely have to talk my dad into taking me, directly. Either way, I ned to do it fast. I think the cut off date is June 28th or so. |

I asked my coach about this a while ago and he said the biceps don't really play much in your punching apart from holding your arm in a hook/uppercut. But you can as it probably wont hinder you i'm guessing. A good one is the dumbell in each hand then do the pushup and pull one of the dumbells up, this way your doing more than just a concentration curl and using more of the muscles in your arm. So how did you go in the track meets mate? Dominate them and the ladies?
