Default did we miss something with the hatton mayweather fight?

i know everyone is saying hatton will never be this at 147 etcetc BUT
just thinking about it even though he certsinly is not wot he was at 140 look at what he achived against floyd...

hatton went 10 rounds of what HBO SKY Sports and me all thought was a close fight gradully going mayweather way , speshly from the 7th round. this was in an uncomfortable weight class for ricky
    BUT

corrales was down 4 times and tkoed in10
gatti gon e in 6, went on to beat damguard so not totally washed up
Ndou gone in 6 or 7 i believe
jesus chavez retired in 9 i think?

so in hatton losing despite this did he prove himself to be a great fighter also? i would certainly rate him up there with corrales etc

    opinons?

He proved that he belonged in the ring with Mayweather, and gave a pretty good account of himself over the first half of the fight. I have trouble calling him a truly great fighter because I find his style so aesthetically unpleasing, but he does have great ability, he's quite fast of hand and foot and is a tough fight for anyone around his weight(though I think a couple WW's would probably make fairly quick work of him in Mosley, Cotto, DLH, etc.) I wonder how much he left in the ring against Mayweather though, as it looked like he really got up for that fight and looked much much sharper then he had in previous fights, even against Castillo.

Hatton is a tough fight for anyone up to 140, at 147 he's just too small.

I think he has the potential to be great, but he has to get back on his horse after Lazcano and fight the other top dogs at 140 and forget all this Mayweather nonsense and leave it in his past. If I was Hatton I would call out Judah to come down to 140, barring that Witter or Malignaggi.

I have a hard time calling him a great at the moment, he still has the potential.

Beating Tszyu moved him up to being the real deal, but that's his only win of consequence in the scheme of things, his win over JLC, while impressive was meaningless, he should have been facing Ngoudjo.

I rooted for Hatton obviously because he is a decent guy and Mayweather is annoying but truth is I never thought he would win....Sadly enough hoping and knowing it will happen are two different things....I rooted for Gatti as well....

With that being said...Hatton went in with the wrong gameplan...He fell apart and got frustrated....He allowed Floyd to get comfortable....

It seems all of Floyds aopponets seem to do the same thig and try to either outbox him or take his head off with bombs''''''

The way to beat Floyd is fight him dirty...Make it rough....A lot of inside holding etc...If he lays on the ropes don't stand and try to take his head off giving him a chance to counter like he prefers...lay right up on him so he has to lean back and has no room to counter...smother the man....Yet nonone seems to do any of that?

Hatton did no worse then many of Floyds big wins...DLH had the best plan and was doing great until he himself seemed to abandon what was working for no apparent reason...Maybe fatigue?

I do think Hatton got a bum rap by fans for the loss....He lost to the P4P #1 fighter in the world....and for somereason he has been blsted more then any of Floyds other opponenets...Some people are even acting as if Hatton is a 3rd rate fighter all of a sudden.....He has notiing to be ashamed of

Hatton would of disposed of corrales no problems.

Guy was an excellent counter puncher who gave castillo problems in his prime.

But he wouldnt of lived with hatton, similar style only ricky would of made himself the aggressor and forced corrales into fighting a fight he wouldnt be used to.

The current haters are ten a plenty at the mo, sad really as hatton is one of the few boxers in the world at the moment who can win a genuine world title without being completely on song.

I would not go that far....And I also would not pick Hatton over a Prime Castillo....He beat a shop worn version that was obvious did not really want the fight to begin with....I liike Ricky but he is not as good as you are stating....Many guys in the game that would beat him P4P.....Even at 140 I still say Malignaggi outpoints him....

Floyd and the ref tag teamed on Ricky, thats why he lost. He'll be back though.

hopefully we will see on the 20th september de la hoya mayweather undercard :P haha how good would that be unfortunetly hatton can top any stage in the world so it wont happen. i think paulie is dangerous for anyone but i think hatton would beat both castillo and corrales with his ability to man handle people at 140. be long hard fights with both though, castillo espeshcialiy (cnt spell lol) corrales mayb 6 or 7 rounds

That's a bit of a stretch, to say anyone would have "no problems" against Corrales is a statement of someone that never watched his fights aside from maybe the Mayweather one.
