The heavyweight division is in an awful state
(This myth is annoying because it´s so constant. According to popular belief, the heavyweights were in the greatest ever state during the Ali era and pretty much ALL other eras, including right now, have been awful. At least I have read articles to that effect constantly for as long as I can remember. But "less than the greatest state" and "awful" are not the same thing)

In the past fights were scored as much on defence as offence.
Sugar Ray Leonrad was heard to have said "if the rules that exist now were to have existed when I was an amateur I never would have won the Olympics." We're much more offensively minded these days.
