Default Anyone Else Think David Diaz May Beat Pac

Many of Diaz's performances have been less than spectacular, sometimes barely winning, but he is a solid lightweight and strong. He fought most of his career at Lt. Welterweight and even though hes not a huge puncher, hes a good one. I cant see Pac backing him up or badly hurting him. I think Pac doesnt have the advantages he is used to because he probably wont be the stronger guy and Diaz is also a southpaw so no advantage there for either. Stylistically could be interesting and look out for headbutts in this one as Diaz often leans foward and neither guy has fought another southpaw lately. Could be an ugly fight, but I think Diaz may outhustle him.

Diaz is a very limited fighter. He BARELY beat a completely shot Erik Morales. I actually scored the fight as a narrow win for Erik.

So, if Pacquiao is in shape and focused, then he should be able to easily beat Diaz. However, the big question is... will Pacquiao be in-shape and focused? We all know that Manny has had questionable habits from time to time. He's coming off a huge fight against a great opponent (Marquez), so it'd be human nature for him to take Diaz lightly. Also, whenever a fighter moves up in weight, I think there's always a tendency for them to get lazy in training, because they know they don't have to keep their weight in control as much as they normally do. Pacquiao has a 5 pound cushion this time that he hasn't had before. If Pacquiao looks past Diaz, then there's always a chance of an upset, because any fighter can be beat if they're not focused.

Gotta agree with your first line. Diaz struggled and shoulda/coulda lost to shot Morales. If pac is 80%+ he'll easy get passed Diaz.

David Diaz' greatest strength is that he is never really out of a fight. He keeps the same pace throughout the entire fight and that has been able to win him a couple fights against a faded Morales and against Jose Santa Cruz who has stamina issues. There's always the Carlos Baldomir effect where if you let a fighter hang around who has a very consistent pace, you let them hang around and as you begin to come back down to earth a bit, they just stick around and never really get worse for wear so in that sense David Diaz always has a chance.

However, Pac isn't just on a different level, he's in a different stratosphere as far as talent goes. Diaz is just very limited, has nothing that jumps out at you and Pac should be able to handle him with ease, unless Pac has a major let down I really don't think this is much of a fight.

I don't think he will beat Pac but his ability (willingness) to endure a beating will give him a slight chance of landing a suprise.....But I expect Pac to box and carry weight well,Rake him with the left & really break up Diaz bad. As limited as Diaz is....He does not lack heart & desire. He'll need every last ounce of it.

I also had Erik winning or a draw, Santa Cruz was beating him handily to befor being stoped. Pac is a different style fighter though and I think Diazs gritty way of fighting could throw Pac off. As amat said Diaz is always in the fight and hes always dangerous. I think that at this weight the questions are with Pacman, we know Diaz can be sucessful at Lightweight. Diaz isnt going to just hand over his title. He may be the least talented of the Diazs but he comes to win and can surprise anyone if hes taken lightly at all.

    I do.

Diaz is a very dangerous fighter especially in high profile fights. I wish I had the article I read about him the other day and share it here. He's one of those guys who performs better when critics were doubting him. Pac used to be that kind of a fighter, and that's what I'm worrying about. Diaz is the underdog, but 10-1 odds is rediculous imo.

I think that's a ploy to notch this as a great victory for Pac myself. 10-1 odds isn't ridiculous at all imo. I think this is a mismatch on the same level as Cotto-Gomez.

I noticed that too. Which is why I want Diaz to win. I put $100 on him. Couldn't pass up those odds

    Maybe not ....
    but...
what concerns me is they might be underestimating him. I think Diaz carries a legitimate 135lb power; I saw him really hurt Erik couple of times. It's just that he's a lousy boxer, technical speaking.
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.
