Berto May Land WBC Title With Mayweather's Retirement - Boxing News

I like Berto alot and he is my #1 prospect and wanted to see him grab a title just not like this... He may end up getting Margarito or Cotto in his next 2 fights after this one

Berto is a decent prospect but still has a lot of work yet before he is ready for any of those guys. At this point in time Cotto or Margarito beat Andre up badly.

A fight with Cintron would have been interesting though.

Totally agree, PEU. I think Berto is a good fighter, has power and speed, but is very very robotic, wide open to get hit and I'm not sure about his chin(I've read reports from his sparring etc of him getting knocked down alot a while ago). Tony and Cotto would shred him to pieces at this stage. I'd like to see him fight some LIVE decent level fighters first.

The problem is, if he wins the WBC strap he will have to choice but to fight the big boys

wHY? I know he's fighting someone for an eliminator, which Im guessing will no be for the title and after that, I don't think the WBC will force him to fight anyone for a while.

No Gamo you got to read it again... The WBC might make this fight for the title itself.

If they do and Berto wins then he is the new WBC Welterweight Champ Then he will have to defend and OI can see the winner of Cotto/Margarito fighting Oscar next if Floyd is retired or Unifying the titles

The only real problem I see with Berto is the same as we see with many prospects who can bang.

The trainers and handlers just seem to think it is OK to neglect his defense. I never understood that in all my years as a fan of the sport.

You would think that knowing the guy has a shaky chin that would be the main focus for a while so he IS able to compete with the higher level, especially knowing that the elite of his division are bangers.

Oh well I guess they know more then I do or else I would be making the big bucks training fighters rather then giving my opp on a forum.

Thats one of the main reasons I like the Mayweather family style of training.. DEFENSE!

Yeah,I admit,i TOTALLY love Floyd's defence, especially in this day and age where everyone is a banger with hands down by their side. Mayweather training on the mits, and rolling with punches=amazing.

Margarito is robotic, Berto isn't robotic at all. He is a fluid fighter, he just doesn't have great defensive skills. He has the same problem as Gamboa that he doesn't keep his hands up high enough, and he doesn't have Gamboa's slick moves or footspeed.

Im confused as to what is going on with these titles to be honest..

First i had heard wbc welterweight title was vacated.. this bieng before floyd announced retirement.. This in fact was prob a sign

And that apparently berto would fight the same opponent he already has for his next fight date.. which i think was the eliminator.. would now be the fight for the vacant title..

But on the other hand the Judah - Clottey bout is supposed to be for a'vacant title..' So i dont know until this business is cleared and confirmed..

But i suspect the vacant title thing is a selling point of the judah clottey fight and will prob end up something like the ibo welterweight title..

and due to rankings it will be berto ending up with a title shot.

Berto is one of my favourite fighters and one i proper enjoy watching. I think in 2 or 3 years he will be the best boxer at 147 clearly (providing Cotto's moved up)...however i really cant see hes anywhere near ready for Cotto, Williams or Tony! Hopefully just a matter of time before he is though!
