Default Why Kelly Pavlik is good for boxing in general

All of us in this forum share a passion for boxing. Otherwise we wouldn’t spend countless hours chatting with total strangers about it. Although I must say, after time has gone by, the total strangers start become like buddies or like a family.

Anyway, the point is: As fans of the sport, we all share a deep desire to have boxing not only survive, but thrive… and to constantly bring in new fans. So basically, we become fans of anything or anyBODY that’s good for boxing. And that’s why I’ve become a big fan of Kelly Pavlik.

Kelly’s from good ol’ Youngstown, Ohio, U.S.A. And being a great American champion, in a nation that basically drives the world’s television coverage and press regarding boxing, can be nothing but a good thing. Americans are always thirsting for the next great champion, who can rally the masses and bring fans to the fights. Not only that. Kelly’s a warrior. He punches hard, has a good chin, always comes to fight, and his fights are always exciting. PLUS… he’s humble, comes from a solid background, and gives back to the community. What more can you ask for?

And without wanting to sound racist, the fact that he’s white doesn’t hurt either. I mean after let’s face it… how many other white (and I mean white) American middleweight champions HAVE there been in the past 20 or 30 years? I know it’s not a matter of race, but if people can identify even more with a fighter because of his race, then so be it. Whatever puts butts in the seats.

So Kelly, fight on. I’ll be rooting for you at every fight, rooting for you to remain undefeated, and rooting for you to help bring the sport of boxing roaring back to where it should be… at the top of the heap.

UFC? MMA? Whatever. Give me a classic boxing match any day of the week.

He is great for boxing and him and Cotto could be the major faces that ressuerects it back to its glorydays of Hearns , Duran and Mancinni. Hopefully this is the beging of a turning piont for this sport.
