Glad to see someone that so rightfully deserves to be there get in.

Holmes was such an important figure in the history of the HW division and often gets overlooked nowadays.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I always liked Holmes as a fighter.

But he came across poorly in a recent interview with Boxing Monthly.

    Patter?
I assume you mean that in the context of speech? If so it was a magazine interview.

However, he spoke at length about many of the champions he faced and in my mind disresoected them all except Ali.

I know he seemed to be obsessed about fighting Foreman but I wasnt aware that he had such a low opinion of other past champions.
    Anyone in particular he targetted?

He said Holyfield was "nothing special" put that fight down to his own lack of preparation.
Earnie Shavers "hit hard but couldn't hurt me if he tried"
    Mike Weaver was "ordinary"

    Ken Norton really got it!

Of Ali he said "I learned more from the three years I sparred him than from anyone else in my career."

Actually, I'll quote the mag tomorrow in a post.

CHeers for that. On the champions forever video he seemed like he was on good terms with all of them.

    He did didn't he?

Mind you he was rather insistant that he would have beaten any of them, where as the others were all very diplomatic (except for Frazier of course.)

I guess thats the result of being under appreciated, you have to insist your legacy and don't resond well to that legacy being threatened.

That DVD made me like Big George a lot, very honest, very open and very diplomatic.

Of course Ali and Norton could barely speak
Big George has created a heck of a lovable loser schtick, and made big money off it
But every single one of those boxers believe in their heart, they could have whupped each other, why get in to the ring otherwise?

    True.

Is it true Big George behind it all is still as nasty as his 70's persona, it was meant to be true in the early 90's, but has he melloed?

I honestly dont know,Ive heard rumours, but you know what they say about a lie going round the world. If I was to make an educated guess, alot of it is schtick, but I also would say his faith has helped him alot with his anger issues. He does seem to have a sense of humor about himself, that he didnt have in the 70's

From listening to him on HBO and general interviews he seems a different person.

Many point out that this might be a marketing ploy, but I'm not convinced.
It's a question I'd dearly love to know the answer to.
