    Default Collazo Wants Oscar!

LUIS COLLAZO READY TO RETIRE OSCAR!

    By Greg Leon

GL: It's been a while since we've had you on Boxingtalk, what's the latest and greatest and when can we expect you back in the ring? "Everything has been going good. I was in training camp with Paul Williams and I'm waiting for a big opportunity. I'm hoping Oscar De La Hoya steps up to the plate and gives me a shot.

    "

GL: You said you hope Oscar gives you a shot, why do you feel you deserve that fight?

Luis Collazo: "He's trying to fight smaller guys. He called out Ricky Hatton another junior welterweight, he just fought Steve Forbes. Not to take anything away from Steve Forbes, but he's not a welterweight. He's supposed to be trying to go out with a bang. Fight somebody in the welterweight division or 154, don't fight these little guys.

    "

GL: A lot of people want to fight Oscar, can you tell us why you feel you deserve the shot more than anybody else?

LC: "I'm one of the top weltweights in the world and he's trying to fight the best. I'm one of the best and I'm ready to fight him.

    "

GL: If nothing comes to fruition with Oscar, what else do you have lined up?

LC: "We're supposed to be doing an eliminator with Nelson Linares. Last time it didn't come through, if it doesn't come through this time he's going to get bumped out of the rankings.

    "

GL: What's the target date for date?

LC: "On the undercard of Nate Campbell's next fight.

    "

GL: What do you think about the Judah-Clottey fight?

LC: "They're both from Gleasons and they're both going to go at each other, may the best man win. I hope Zab is taking him serious, if he does he should be able to win.

    "

GL: What was the sparring with Paul Williams like?

LC: "It was a great experience for me. I got him ready, I'm just ready to get ready for my fight now.

    "

GL: When you were sparring with him did you let it all hang out or did you hold back because you know you could be fighting him somewhere down the line?

LC: "To be honest with you, I went in there and I did what I had to do. I made my mark and I let him know I was there. I left it like that, I didn't go too crazy, but when I had to step it up I stepped it up and let him know what it is.

    "

GL: Any final message for Oscar and closing thoughts for the fans?

LC: "Let's make this happen! If you want to fight at welterweight, I'm more than ready to retire you. I want my fans to know I'm coming back soon and thanks a lot to Boxingtalk.

Good Shit, I'd love to see the fight and i rate collazo real high among welters..

I know alot of people will say what has he done to deserve etc etc..

But what did stevie forbes do?.. What we know is Lou Collazo is a true welterweight, a dangerous opponent for any welterweight.. and with floyd retiring and leaving oscar without an opponent there are much worse choices out there for him..

The cotto margarito winner will be in no shape to compete come sept 20 after going to war end of july..

He wont fight sugar shane again..Niether want the fight..

    Ricky is busy with paulie..

Mora .. i mean Cmon.. Mora or Collazo.. EXACTLY

    Lets see whats what oscar..

    Nice Interview Tito.

I like Luis a lot, but am unsure if he really deserves Oscar. I think he should have chased a rematch with the Sugarman if he felt he could beat him.

    Rep returned my bro

nd yeah i think they had been looking for a shane return but its all been going in circles..

Failing this oscar fight though.. the shane return looks far better..

Cos everytime it happens Lou says i want shane, shane says i want cotto.. and its all going in circles.. If shane wants some money and cant find an opponent.. we know he wants to fight..but zab pulled out which sucks for him.. kinda like oscars situation.. zab got himself another fight.. we know shane wants to stay busy and wants the cotto fight.. but cotto wont fight again after margarito until late '08 so for me.. Both sugar shane and oscar are perfect fights..

And both for most people will say like.. But i dont think collazo is on this level he jumps the gun strait into deep water.. But he turns up and does the business.. failing hand injuries..Lol and then people have no choice but to take notice.. but i think after all this inactivity lou is actually in a very good spot to take advantage right now

Collazo is a warm-up opponent for Oscar in the mold of Mayorga and Forbes... he's already done that this year

Good interview by the way. I like Collazo; too bad he stays so low on the radar in the WW div. I'd like to see him get some good fights. Oscar won't have an easy time with this kid IMO. I'd like a Collazo/Cintron fight as well.

I bet he ends up fighting Cotto or Shane (though to be honest I dont really want to see ethier). He's not that any of their levels.

    Thanks for the reply

I also like a cintron collazo fight.. Frankly i favour collazo for these reasons..

Firstly people will say that collazo got stopped .. The cassiani fight.. okay so he got caught and was on the ropes.. But might have been a bit premature..

To have grown since then and the way he hung in for a decision with one hand for 9 rounds for sugar shane tells you enough about slicking it out with no jab hand.. imagine nine rounds with a hall of famer just pawing a jab and setting up the right.. Theres only so many ways you can do it..

and secondly.. The way a guy like feliciano lasted into the late rounds with cintron is crazy.. god bless jesse.. a great guy, can take a hell of a shot.. but if cintron couldnt finish him earlier then that like alot of lesser guys have.. im sure feliciano rose to the occasion but it makes me wana put good money on the fact that collazo can slick it out and do him via decision..

Saying "I want to fight Oscar" is the same as saying:

    "I want to be rich"

Could Collazo grab a strap at 154?? He is ackward and there is a helluva lot less up there.

I think that would be a good fight Collazo vs Cintron and Collazo vs Quintana , now that Lou DiBella is working a fight between Quintana vs Cintron , two Ex-Champ that was KO two times , i think that is a great match up..............

It's funny how he says Hatton is the smaller guy an all and he put Collazo on his ass and walked thorugh all of what Collazo had LOL.
