Default Floyd Wanted $50M to Fight Oscar

FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.: "SOMETHING WRONG WITH LIL FLOYD...HE WANTED 50 MILLION DOLLARS"

"He knew automatically it wasn't going to be an easy fight; it was going to be a tough fight without a doubt so one of his reasons could be that he didn't want to lose. The other reason is he didn't want his daddy to make that money...I did hear that he wanted 50 million dollars. I did hear that and I'm not sure if that was the exact amount, but that's what I heard. To me, he couldn't have got 50 million dollars for that last fight that him and De La Hoya put up," stated world-renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. as he shared his thoughts on why his son, Floyd Mayweather Jr., walked away from a rematch with De La Hoya and ultimately retired. You definitely don't want to miss this exclusive as Mayweather Sr. talks more about Lil Floyd's retirement, his treatment of Roger Mayweather and what happened when the two ran into each recently at the gym. Check it out!

This is the very reason Sr. will never have a relationship with his son. What was the point of him opening his mouth? For an older guy, wisdom certainly escapes him.

Nothing wrong with that...start high and work your way down. Shit what if he asked for $100 mil and for some unseen crazy reason they said yes. You'll never know if you never ask.......overpricing yourself seems smart to me. Now holding out and avoiding a fight is a different situation...

Did Floyd bargain? Imo, he should've.

I just read an interview with the WBC president recently and he says that the last fight the split was 65-35 for Oscar and this time Floyd wanted parity and "retired" when he couldn't get it. But even Suleiman (?) thinks the retirement is just a negotiating ploy.

The first fight did do 134 mio. $ in PPV revenue (according to this - first link I found), so as a starting point of negotiations 50 mio may not actually be as ludicrous as it seems.

Now we can debate whether or not Floyd will be the attraction in a rematch, but he did win the first one and he is the number one p4p, so some demands he can probably make. Also, while a rematch might do less business, he is effectively asking Oscar to take a paycut that will leave him with around 'only' 50 mio. as well.

Floyd would have every right to ask, just as Shane Mosley had every right. But Shane didn't get it and declined a 3rd fight with Oscar.

I gotta disagree, Macho. It's called a counter-offer. DLH could have easily made one (if the $50 million request is legit). The fact of it is is PBF is a draw and he did win the first fight. If Oscar is really interested in proving himself perhaps he should be willing to NOT take the lion's share for a change.
