I thought id start this topic purely because i just see a topic regarding Ray Leonard being overrated when fans call certain fighters overrated what do they actually mean ? as i said in the other topic i dont believe Ray is overrated purely because his opposition speaks for itself so does his skills and as for the the publics view on him like i said maybe they do overrate him somewhat but there not true fans of the sport and i have seen many hardcore fans call Ray overrated so is he really overrated when you take that all into account ? but lets move on to another fighter for example Jeff Lacy now thats a fighter i would call overrated purely because of the hype his opposition his skills and because fans do tend to overrate power punches and underrate defensive boxers but i ask you hardcore boxing fans whats your take on this ?

I think they are expressing their belief that the vast percentage of the boxing public is overestimating the ability of the fighter.

I also think that in the case of past fighters it is refers to the boxing poublic looking back at the fighter with a golden hue, an embossed image of a past fighter, reflecting on his career and perhaps over-appreciating his achievements.
