    Default Greatest Polish Fighters Ever

This thread was inspired by another brilliant thread: "How do I make a pole?"

SO I got to thinking who where/are some top notch Polish fighters??

    Golota
    Adamek are still fighting.

    Dariusz Michaelewski (Sp.?) <----------

Golota was probably the dirtiest Polish fighter ever.

I think when all is said and done Adamek will be on the list.

Krystof Włodarczyk is pretty decent as well.

My knowledge of Polish fighters is very limited.

Argueably one of the GREATEST threads in Saddo history...

As for the greatest Polish fighter...
    Without a doubt Dariusz...

    Golota
    Adamek
    "Diablo"
Saleta had some good wins and fought good oppostion.
Goldberg (who fought the great Manuel Ortiz)
Sosnouski at least deserves a mention...

A up and coming Polish fighter Grzegorz Proksa (sp?) is making a lot of noise. Then there's also Damian Jonak who only 23 and is doing well.

I'm pretty sure Dmitri Pirog is Polish. He might be just regular Russian though.

Golota imo was the best Polish fighter ever. He really should have been world champion, people forget how good he looked before he dipped below the belt on Bowe. Had he possessed any composure at all he would have been a really great champion imo.

Years ago I was in Budapest for a fight and was introduced to Lazlo Pap. We had time and with an interpreter had a long conversation on why in the early 50s Hungary produced excelent sportmen, and why it had stopped, He told me it was because Russia had invaded and ruled, and that the Hungarians had lost all self respect and there Hearts werent in it anymore. Thats probably why non of the Sattalite States have produced to many great Athletes since the war. Only the Female East Germans had success and we all know why that is

As far as talent goes I think so. Not a slight to Dariusz either but I think Golota could have been one of the great fighters of the 90's if he wasn't such a headcase. He looked like a machine against Nicholson and then Bowe twice but anytime a guy took his best shot he would get dirty. I remember Lampley being horrified by his headbutt in the Nicholson fight. Was a bit of a precursor to the Bowe fights. Of course Dariusz will go down as the greater fighter but I think Golota had more talent and potential.

Gotta say I'm really surprised at this comment...
    Dariusz better then Golota... Hhhhmmmm

I don't even know what to reply... I mean if Dariusz wasn't skilled how in the hell did he reign as a champ for that long.
A lot of people forget (tho just a quick dip) he was also a Cruiserweight champ.
I guess tho to each is own.

....an answer to your question Mick...he was PROTECTED!

RJJ, Toney, McCallum, McClellan, Eubank, Benn, Hopkins, Collins, Calzaghe, etc.....Dariusz never got close to fighting any of them.

Darius, never had to, Germany is the 2nd largest PPV. He was earning Terrific money without leaving Germany, it made sense for everybody concerned.

Dariusz became a champ 1st those guys should have came to him.
He was the man at LHW...
If anyone wanted to be the man, remember beat the man to be the man.

No, RJ was the man. And like I said, it was no slight to Dariusz, but I think he was pretty much a middle of the road champion who was indeed protected. Never really fought above the B level. I'm not saying Golota's accomplishments match up, I'm just saying I thought he had more raw talent and potential. No real harm in that imo.

To build your legacy of course! But the only thing is he would DEFINITLEY have been beaten off Jones so whats the point?

Also I'd say Roy was the man at light heavy not Dariusz. I think Dariusz was only the WBO champ which at the end of the day was at that point at least the lesser of all the major sanctioning bodys.
