Someone's post about "The Contender" reminded me of Ishe.

I don't see why he's still fighting guys from the show (Jesse Brinkley next) when he is the only one of that group of fighters who has the potential to crack the top 10. He's sparred and trained with Mosely and Vargas, is in excellent shape, and the only reason he lost to Sergio was because he wasn't aggressive enough. I think he's the only boxer from that show with any real future, Gomez has skill though.

Manfredo is a bum and Sergio doesn't have the skill or power to ever get in the top 10 middleweights.

I agree ishe was the best of the bunch, sergio just throws three hundred punches a second, and they must be like bitch slaps cause after fights nobody really had anything wrong with their faces. The guys didnt look the best middleweights in the world. But was a good show.

i think in some ways they have ruined their carers by goin on the show cus say if ishe won a world title hed still only be known as tht guy from the contenders

I dont think the show ruined any of thier careers, in fact it gave most of them (which were C+ class boxers) some celebrity so now people will pay to see them fight e/o even though they never have a chance to rise to the top of the division.

I'm really disapointed it's not getting a second season. It got a lot of friends of mine interested in boxing and I think that's what boxing needs; to get people to see what it's all about. Especially since it was on NBC, it gave a lot of people a chance to see it. I think instead of putting every big fight on PPV, it would help the sport a LOT if they contracted with a major tv station for some fights. Something like ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights" but with bigger headliners.

Personally, I think Gomez is by far the most improved fighter out of all of them and has some good potential. As far as Ishe Smith goes, you can't really properly judge a fighter from the highlights they showed on each episode.

That guy was pretty funny. Despite his arrogance, he seemed like a nice enough guy too.

i think if alfonso moved down a couple weight classes he could be pretty good. he looked kinda chubby at MW

I thought Ishe would win the contest, he is the most talented of the bunch, but he is NOT a middleweight. He is a welterweight. He did lose to Chris Smith so his future is kinda limited though.

Thet're in a don king esque contract where the people in charge of the show are still in charge of their next fights

Ishe Smith's only loss was to Sergio Mora, so i dont know where u got Chris Smith from.

Haha. He was not undefeated entering the Contender show. Chris "the Mechanic" Smith beat his ass in real life boxing, 10 Rounds. Ishe Beat David Estrada, and then Estrada beat Chris Smith. Smith recently fought Sharmba Mitchell.
