Default David Haye: Can he live up to the hype?

My thoughts are that #1 The hype is CRAZY for a guy who has already lost and has never fought a top heavyweight #2 He's shown limited defense, stamina, and chin at cruiserweight #3 The heavyweight division is deeper than anyone cares to notice, the only thing is it's not consistent which therefore gives us more average fighters and not many great fighters.

I say he eventually wins A belt but he'll get beaten before he gets to Wladimir and when he gets to Wlad he'll get beaten again. I think that doesn't live up to the hype and so I say right now he's not going to please his fans who are already sold on him beating Wladimir.

I think he may be sparked out cold on his way to the belt he wants
hate to say it but i've seen him get bashed about a fair bit in the past by Cruisers (Thompson,Mormeck and Fragommeni (at times) and i really want him to do well but just feel that the gap and power of a full blown Heavy connecting in comparison to a cruiser is a massive step up and a huge ask.
I look at things in black and white when it comes to the fight game and yeah Evander did it but can anyone honestly say that Hayes chin is anywhere near that of Holyfields!
like i said i'll be routing for him all the way but just have this gut feeling that even a rahman could spark him if he catches him flush.
We shall see and i agree with what your saying Lyle...
PS whats it like inside the Klits bum these days..?

I haven't voted because its to difficult to tell he has to have a fight at top 10 Heavyweight before anyone can say one way or another

If his stamina and defence haven't bulked up like his body then he is in for a short career as the saviour of the heavyweights

I want to like Haye I want him to be a great British champ but I fear we are seeing the second coming of Audley

I voted "No, he will not last in the HW Div."

I'm sorry. But none of us have any reason to be sold. Granted there are a shitload of "what ifs" but we could do that with any fighter.

Haye has very nice power and good handspeed but a leaky defense that will not suit him against the bigger guys.

Could he go on to win a belt? Maybe. WE HAVE ABSOLUTLY NO REFERENCE POINT! THE MAN HAS NOT EVER FOUGHT AVEN A MID LEVEL NATURAL HEAVYWEIGHT!

For people to preach him the next big thing is ludicrous.

I do not wish him any ill will and if he IS the saviour of the HWs... GREAT! I'd love to see that. But I have no reason to be sold and neither does anyone else nomatter how many numbers they throw at me.

When he fights a legit natural HW then we'll have some history to talk about. Other then that... It's a moot point.

...and if he does get up to the point of fighting Wlad he'll be able to tell me what the lights look like in Vegas.

I voted no way he can win,but let me explain my reasons, even if he does win,he's not going to look good doing it. Theres no way he can live up to the hype machine around him. So even if he wins,he loses

I think Rahman could spark anyone flush, he does have power, he just doenst have the best speed or skills and his chin aint the greatest, neither is his defence

Any one at heavy will trouble Haye, he is banking on blitzing Wladamir like Sanders did but I think Sanders is quicker than Haye.

Holyfield dominated the cruisers, Haye never would have, he already lost to Thompson, hes done a good job of making beleivers over naive and gulable fans but in reality, hes a fighter that struggled in his own weight class and wants to try against even bigger and stronger men.

If he were with Warren he wouldnt be shouting about Wladamir, setting himself up for a big fall and early retiement.

If Frank were confident enough in him to face the heavys, hed carefully match him up to the make or break fight, Adam Booth is treating Haye like his little experiment, hes already had to put him back together after he pushed him too far against Thompson

Well this is all I'll say about this...

He became unified Cruiser champ not a title holder.
A unified champ and the very 1st British to do so...

    That IMO speaks volumes.

Now fighting at HW is whole nother story.

Who gives a fuck whether he lives up to the heavyweight hype or not.

It wasn't too long ago, on this site, a David Haye thread had about half a dozen posters involved.

He is an exciting fighter. Fact.

You will ALL be WATCHING when he fights. He has done his side job great.
