Antonio Margarito vs. Shane Mosley WBA championship fight in January 2009...

Andre Berto vs. Luis Collazo for WBC championship fight...

    Miguel Cotto vs. TBA

Who's gonna emerge as "THE MAN" at welterweight in 2009?
Antonio Margarito can and will beat everyone in the division except Clottey...

Josh will be the man come 2010!

Funny enough POB i have mixed feelings about Joshua Clottey, i think he is overrated and underrated at the same time. He is overrated by hardcore fans by how well he actually can do at Welterweight, and he is underrated because he is virtually unknown to armchair fans.

To me when i look at Joshua Clottey i see a solid fighter, with a good chin a good all rounder with good countering skills. But theres nothing about him thats great or special in anyway, plus he has stamina issues and he goes into a shell at times aswell.

I think he loses to Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Andre Berto, and possibly Luis Collazo. I think he can compete with most of the top Welterweights, but i can't see him beating most of em except Kermit Cintron.
    Wow... Talk about underrating

With all due respect I have to wholeheartedly disagree with a few of your statments. Although known as a good counterpuncher he is still under rated in this respect. I find that clottey will fight at different paces for different people. I agree with the stamina issues and that also explains going into a shell... But c'mon....

Williams... you never know. I don't like Williams all that much but is he atop the division? Sure. He'll give anyone problems but any of the ones you mentioned baring Collazo can beat Williams if the workrate stays up. He just doesn't overly impress me.

Margarito would have been beaten by Clottey should he not have hurt his hand(s). This just goes to show how great a counter puncher he is... To be able to stifle a guy like antonio margarito, you don't need to be a good counter puncher... You need to be a GREAT counterpuncher.

Cotto would be a great fight and Cotto also would be the favorite. Cotto boxes superbly but I think Clottey on a good night could take cotto as well. Clottey's power is also underrated.

Andre Berto with his leaky defense would get countered all night and probably go down a few times as well... Berto, talk about overrated(though I though he showed great skill and grew up alot in the Forbes fight) he's not even close toready for Clottey. Josh 'ud have him on his back more then once in their fight.

    Collazo

    Collazo

Few things i have to point out here POB, Joshua Clottey only broke his thumb and Joshua Clottey stated this. The broken hand or hurt hands theory is a myth. And also what you may not know Antonio Margarito before his fight with Joshua Clottey, had a shoulder injury and a sprained ankle. So his training didn't go to well so i think you can make legit excuses for both fighters.

I think Paul Williams would do the best against Joshua Clottey, he would box Joshua Clottey on the outside. And use his superior reach to outbox Joshua Clottey, and by doing that he takes away one of Joshua Clottey's best weapons which is counter punching. Paul Williams would give Joshua Clottey chances to counter at times, because Paul Williams never fights tall for an entire fight. But his reach and height would be too much for Joshua Clottey.

Again Joshua Clottey isn't a good mover, so a boxer who can box on the outside would give Joshua Clottey the most problems. Something Miguel Cotto and Luis Collazo can do very well, so again thats why i think Joshua Clottey loses to Miguel Cotto, Luis Collazo.

Andre Berto vs Joshua Clottey would be very competitive but Andre Berto. Has alot of stamina and can fight at a good pace for 12 rounds, so i can see Andre Berto outworking Joshua Clottey down the stretch. Plus he has the superior handspeed, although i do agree that Joshua Clottey will be able to counter Andre Berto alot, because Steve Forbes was able to counter Andre Berto plenty of times, and Andre Berto's defense is leaky. So maybe Joshua Clottey can win enough of the early rounds to earn a close decision before his stamina gives out, but either way neither man would dominate.
