There is good reason prior to Pavlik v. Hopkins people blasted Calzaghe for choosing RJJ over Pavlik: he chose an old fighter over a young one. In his own book, he says RJJ is old and past his prime.
yeah cos Pavlik has always been so complimentary towards Calzaghe.

Here's Pavlik on interview saying he's not interested in fighting Joe becuase he has very little chance of getting past Roy Jones anyway

All of these boxing rivals talk smack about each other, it's hardly Calzaghe starting it.
First, when do two wrongs make a right?

Second, you are dead wrong about Pavlik talking trash about Calzaghe. Now, his trainer, Jack Loew, talked a whole lot of trash, as did Enzo for that matter. Saying Calzaghe will have a rough outing against RJJ is very different from what Calzaghe said, and the two statements were made at very different points in time. Prior to a fight taking place, there is a lot of motivation to hype the fight by talking trash. To put a fighter down after he has been dominated when there is no chance you'll be fighting him is classless. I'm sorry. I don't see how you defend that. He could have said, "I feel vindicated for not taking that fight, Pavlik is young, he will recover and become better." In fact, did you notice what Hopkins said after the fight?

I won't lie, usually, I pull for Americans when they face British opposition. However, when Calzaghe fought Hopkins I was in a British bar in New York pulling for Calzaghe mostly because Bhop acted like a prick before that fight. This time around, I think I'll be rooting for RJJ.
