Im looking for Jones to pull off the upset here.
Roy needs to get Joe's attention early with thudding right hand leads anywhere they can find a home. Make Joe think just a little about throwing the busy flurries that only expose him.
I think if Roy can give Joe a moment of pause in the first 3 by letting his hands fly a little harder, he puts a big dent in Calzaghe's pitter- patter- points- plan.
I also think Roy is plenty quick at 39, and plenty crafty yet. I thought he did a fine job starting the rebuilding of himself after his losses, and although I thought Tito looked too small in their fight, Roy danced and boxed and thudded beautifully. Looked fantastic in fact.
Im picking Jones Jr to win the decision here.
I think we might finally see genuine concern, with some wonderment sprinkled in, on the face of Joe in the first few rounds. Roy's gonna be like nothing he's tangled with.
Now then. Im a big Calzaghe fan, too. Part of me would like nothing more to see him retire undefeated. And although you hear alot of talk about how old Roy is, or how long in the tooth and detiorated he is, I still give Joe props for fighting him in his farewell bout. If I was Joe, I could think of alot of easier final fights than RJJ.
F*ck me, Joe can still throw lighting combinations!!
There is deffinitly power there too, you can hear it though the pad, he must just tone it down in the ring for fear of hurting his hands.

Anyone else notice how small Roy looks next to Joe?
His fists are smaller and his head is tiny!!
Joe in round 6. As Joe has stated he's gonna pick and sit down on his punches rather than throw flurries.
Jones legs look really shaky in the openning 2 rounds and if Joe hasn't taken him out by then, then it will be around the 6th.
Jones just doesn't have the movement to keep out of harms way for long enough and his chin is not there anymore.
Could be reminiscant of Lennox vs Tyson.

Here's how I see it, If Roy fights, and can sustain it for 12 rounds Calzaghe loses this. Roy is too fast, his punches are straighter and he is the better boxer. That being said I think he will likely get his clock cleaned. Roy will mostly likely not be able to keep up with Calzaghe's work rate, and he will either get stopped or lose a lopsided division.
Not only is he not Hopkins, he doens't have Hopkin's ability to not get hit cleanly off the ropes. Roy does have good defense, but the problem is he waits for his opponent to finish throwing their punches instead of countering. Old Roy would have countered Calzaghe into oblivion, and then come forward and knock him out. But this version of Roy will sit there and when Calzaghe is done throwing his combinations he will look to counter, but Joe will have already widened the distance.
shame i havent got half an hour today but will look forwad to watching it tommorw
Holy shit Roy's hands are still so fast. Joe throws combinations in a way anybody could be fast, he doesn't bring his hands back after punches, and he doesn't put a lot behind them. Individually his punches aren't crisp whereas Roy not only is throwing crisp punches where each one lands solidly, but he also throwing them much faster. Its incredible.
