Default Raushee Warren To Stay Amateur For 4 More Years

ESPN - Rau'shee Warren to attempt a record third Olympic boxing berth

Have to say I'm fairly shocked, just seems so odd in this age. Not sure this has been posted already but damn 4 years is a long time he could very well be a professional champion in 4 years if he took that route but fair play to him to keep pushing on for a gold.

Also he said he had a hard time finding a promoter, that is fairly shocking in itself. How the hell can promoters and talent scouts not see what this guy has to offer to boxing? Really hard to believe that there wasn't a huge push to sign him by everybody.

Huh, how old is he, if its in the article my apologies

Seems a bit of a waste even though I'll be rooting for him when he makes it back. Just seems like a lot of time to devote yourself to something which could end immediately due to ridiculous scoring.

As for the promoter thing, there aren't too many popular American fighters at his weight. We watch, we like it but we are irrelevant.

[QUOTE=Raushee is 21 now. He was 17 at his first Olympics and will be 25 should he box in London.

The one item not published or discussed much is the fact that USAB boxers can receive outside money and sponsorships. It just has to go through USAB and is distributed as a stipend. I highly doubt that Warren stayed for free and I'm sure that he is getting a really nice amount of cash to help him be patient and wait around for another 4 years. Should USAB turn things around, which I fully expect, having Warren in the program would be a great story - with his face representing the new USAB program.

I thought he would win this time, I can't believe his corner didn't know he was behind, I was very upset by that outcome, I wish he would go pro, its good to get into the game young so you can relearn the sport as a pro. We are seeing from Gamboa that staying in the amateurs too long has its consequences though Warren is a much more disciplined fighter.

DC you know whats up wtih Gary Russel Jr?

This is a horrible idea, he should just go pro. I have serious doubts that if he really put any effort forth that he couldn't find representation. I have even more doubts that the Olympic Committee will have improved the scoring system by 2012.

C'mon Rau'Shee we need some more Americans with talent in the pro ranks.

Unbelievable to me that he is staying amateur. I am all for living the dream, reaching the pinnacle of it by getting the gold. But after this past Olympics, he surely must see how flawed the system is, and in particular, the USA handling of it and it's athlete's concerned with boxing. Some of the worst cornering I have seen.

Add to that the bizarre scoring debacle we all witnessed. Just too much of a gamble, IMO.

He can find a promoter easily. Maybe there is just not enough incentive for him right now, as was mentioned...perks possibly being offered to stay AM.

Just very surprising to me. I think he is very ready for a pro career. It's a process going pro, and takes time. Right now he is the perfect age to be molded into it.

I thought it was odd simply because of how in shambles the US program is. And it isn't just the results that are screwed up.

DC you know more about these things then me it is true that the US team didn't have an equipment sponsor right? I mean no one is touching them right now with the exception of Oscar De La Hoya or at least that's what I've been led to believe.

I felt bad for Warren because of the way he lost in China. Bad scoring IMO. He should turn pro now because the same thing could happen to him again in London 2012.
