Default Buddy McGirt should have let Paulie finish the fight

Paulie is tough as nails and deserved to finish the fight, plain and simple. Like Paulie said, thats a stoppage loss on his record that, as outgunned as he was, really shouldn't be there.

It was probably the most awkward timing for a towel throw I've ever seen. Where the hell was his towel in the 6th round of Gatti/PBF?? Or the 9th round of Gatti/Ward? Obviously Paulie doesn't have the kind of fight changing power Gatti has, but nonetheless he deserved to go the distance, or at least go out on his shield.

Yep, I agree. It was only another 5 minutes. Its not as though he had been down several times or had a broken jaw.

Let him finish it as he would have wanted.

Thats assuming going the distance was Paulie's choice to make ? Mcgirt was looking out for his fighter.

McGirt had his (Paulie's) career in mind, not just his pride. Malignaggi was getting hurt, he had no chance to win the fight, so why let it continue and have it potentially ruin him? He made the right choice IMO.

I agreed with the stoppage. Malignaggi looked like a broken man in the corner between rounds, he looked like he was about to to cry after the 9th or 10th round. He wanted out and he got it. His reaction was just bravado in my opinion.
People might think I am being harsh on Malignaggi, but it looked to me that he had no fight in him.

This is the Reason why Arturo Gatti left McGirt.

McGirt needs to stop humiliating his fighters to be honest.

I still remember back in like 2004 he was one of the hottest trainers around...mcgirt has fallen off big time.

McGirt should have let the fight keep going, but Paulie should have done more work or else there wouldnt have been a reason to stop it. Paulie's fault.

I think it should have been stopped a few rounds sooner than it was. I think waiting to round 11 and then pulling the plug was odd.

Really? I thought McGirt pulled the plug too early. I understand Paulie was taking some shots but I've seen people take worse (Maybe because Vera took a ridiculous beating and no towel was thrown). Paulie had no shot of knocking Hatton out but there's a lot of pride in finishing the fight on your feet. Paulie was taking some punishment but by in no way career threatening blows. I don't know, I thought McGirt took his authority way too far. He told him to show him something or else he would throw in the towel. The round barely started and he already threw it in. Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks so...

Well, that part in bold is the whole point. As a trainer, if your fighter has the ability to change a fight with one punch, then you give him every opportunity to do it.

Malignaggi doesn't have that ability. His only hope was to win a decision, and since it was obvious that he was way behind on the scorecards, why let him continue? It's not like he was still being aggressive and letting his hands go, he had basically been reduced to clutching and grabbing, and was offering up no resistance at all.

I admire Paulie's heart, but McGirt did the right thing.

    DAMN STRAIGHT!!!

It was a bullsh*t stoppage. McGirt was WAAAAAAY off base on this one. Yes, Paulie was losing the fight. But he was still competitive, and conceivably still had that "lucky punch" chance. You saw Paulie's reaction as soon as the fight was stopped. He was beside himself, to the point of shoving McGirt away. He felt humiliated, embarrased. I thought he expressed himself with class, given the circumstances. But he put it very well when he said: "I was hurt a lot more against Cotto, and they let me finish. I'm a lot better than a fight stoppage." He was very gracious to the British fans in attendance.

    Face it... McGirt f*cked up.

He took 11 rounds of beating, he had 1 round t go. There was nothing hatton was going to do to stop him. Buddy should have let him go the distance. For a fighter, especially one like Paulie, it has to be humiliating.

Paulie got absoloutely took to school last night.

I loved every single SECOND of the fight.

Seeing that cocky, brash, gay ass Italian get beatdown like an amateur by an "MMA fighter" he called Ricky has made my weekend

I still can't get over the fact it weren't even close.

McGirt done the right thing IMO.

^Just make sure Hatton doesn't fight DLH or Mayweather again and you can stay in that Wonderland for the rest of his career.

I was very impressed with Hatton.

"It's on my record now and even in 50 years it will say I got stopped in this fight. That's always going to stay with me, always going to bother me."

That says it all IMO, maybe to us its just sparring the guy of losing 1 more round, but to him its his legacy, its what he pours his blood and sweat into, Buddy had no right to do that.
