This is a hispanic newspaper... they are working all the details as we speak. HBO stepped up with a better offer and we agreed to the fight... official announcement and news will come out shortly.

Wow if this is true I'm going with Shane on this one although Marg must be the favorite head to head analysis coming up.

I heard somewhere else that Berto-Mosley was not signed, that Berto's people were a bit unsure about going through with it unless they got more money, they'd just go with Collazo.

I can't say if that's 100 hundred percent true but I saw that yesterday and now today you have this so it could be.

The fight seems made now. Money alone was not the issue for Margarito. He just did not think Shane deserved a 50% split of the money.

    By Mark Vester
According to Francisco Espinoza, co-manager of WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, a deal has been reached for a title defense against Shane Mosley on January 24 in Las Vegas. There were ongoing negotiations for the last few weeks that broke down last Tuesday when Margarito, angry that Mosley wanted a 50-50 split, turned down the fight. Golden Boy Promotions tried to secure WBC champ Andre Berto for Molsey but there were numerous issues ranging from money to Berto losing his title for not making his mandatory obligation against Luis Collazo.
Espinoza told the usually reliable Notifight, that HBO, who put up a previous license fee of $4 million dollars, came to the table with a new offer late Friday night. Team Margarito went over the offer and approved it over the weekend. The previous license fee being put up by HBO was $4 million dollars. Espinoza did not disclose the financial terms of the new deal.
Espinoza told Notifight that Margarito accepted the deal and is making plans for his Los Angeles training camp. More details to come.

No, Dan Rafael reported that that fight was in big trouble because of a number of issues. One was that Don King was pushing Collazo's mandatory status and Berto would have to give up the WBC belt to take the fight, which he did not want to do. Also, the money was not there for the risk involved. He stood to get about $850,000 for the Mosley fight, and about $650,000 to fight Collazo. So, the risk/reward was not adding up to take the fight. I hope this rumor is true and Margarito/Mosley is on. If not, I hope Mosley gives Williams a shot.

I believe that Berto reconsidered after the fact he realized he would have to give up his title for a bout with Mosley....

Tony was waiting to get a better cut of the purse like I said....He wanted to be treated like the champion....Mosley was to get an even split with him and Tony's people said no.....and I agree with them....Mosley's people never gave Tony the time of day in the past...as neither did any of GBP...Why should he split fair?.....He is the champ and he is the #1 man in the division.....No one ever offered an even split with him in the past.....

He will beat Shane like a drum....I am a Mosley fan but Tony is just on fire right now....

As much as I disagree with everything you have ever said about the Klitscho Brothers; I agree with this statement.

I think it would have to be close to even split though as there is no doubt who is the bigger draw of the two fighters.

However the champion should get the bigger split id say 55 AM and 45 SM.

I agree 100%. What was that old Roy Jones saying? "60-40 I'll kick your ass" Hehe. Many say Shane is the bigger draw, but I have serious doubts about that.

Cotto vs Shane did 340000 buys
Cotto vs Margarito did 480000+ buys.

Margarito is now considered "the man" of the division by beating Cotto and deserves a bigger slice of the pie until someone removes him from that position.

Shane is still a name, but you can only carry past accomplishments so far. Margarito just wants to get paid.

Can't blame him either - he deserves it. I'm glad this fight is happening, even though I would have liked to see Berto fight Mosley, too. I think Margarito overwhelms Mosley at this point.

I like Margarito, but guys like Toney, Hopkins, Mayweather, Delahoya and Mosely dont get Knocked out.

Maybe Shane gets out hustled but he isint going to back up and will stand his ground like Clottey and will make it a proper tear up
