I think Toney might turn it around after this bad performance. He was whooping Rahman's a$$ in their last fight before Rahman quit, b/c of the cut that was "blinding" him. He couldn't handle Toney at all that night.
I was really dissappointed how Toney was handling the fight in the Champ rounds, but I can't say taht Fres landed a meaningful shot before that. In fact I'd say that Toney had landed some telling blows through the fight, but he didn't follow that filler instinct.
So Sad. I wanna see Toney fight again, but I really don't at the same time... Lose some weight fat ass!
"Floyd needs to inject Xylocaine into his balls to gain the courage to fight Pacquiao."
- and I quote from some random guy on the internet
Oquendo did get screwed once again. I say now it was Chris Byrd,Holyfield could have gone either way,Ruiz the fight to me was stopped ridiculously quick and now James Toney. It seems that everytime this man has stepped up he has done well but get's screwed. I drank quite a bit that night but I had the fight something like 9 to 3 for Fres. Even when the commentater's were saying Fres lost the early rounds I was saying "what F**king are you people watching !!!". Anyway I think the punchstats were somewhat accurate and that was my point of arguement.
Yeah well so much for Toney and his teams claims of him training seriously...
I thought he might join the year of legends making one last good fight but should have known better
Hidden Content IN CASE THEY ALL FORGOT WHAT REAL HEAVYWEIGHT POWER WAS!!!
Anyone close to Toney who tries to tell him he is done will prob get KO'd at the family BBQ. That's the impression I get of the man.
And I were Oquendo I would have been hauled off to jail after they read the scorecards.
I still havent seen this Toney fight yet, but it will be my evening viewing. He might be done, but I think he deserves a final chance to either put up once and for all if a fight with Thompson does go through in February.
If Toney has anything left then he can be competitive with Thompson. If not Thompson wins a wide decision and Toney is done. I want to see one more showing, Toney can get in better shape than I hear he was in against Oquendo.
I will watch it and post what I think later.
I also thought that Holyfield beat Oquendo, that was basically my whole reasoning for giving Holyfield a slight, and by slight i mean veeeeeery small chance, but a chance anyways in beating Imbrogimov, and I also felt that Oquendo beat Byrd, so did Golota, and McCline.
First off, it was an awful fight to watch.
Toney definitely started the stronger but Oquendo undoubtedly "came on" down the stretch. I say came on like that because it was more a case of Toney doing nothing meaningful. It was a close fight, and Oquendo probably deserved the nod.
Toney had no output. Combinations were not there. His countering was ineffective. He would do too little for too long in the later rounds.
Toney usually gets stronger as the fight goes on. Here he had little left beyond the 9th. It was surprising and dissapointing to see. Maybe not so surprising considering the 2nd Peter fight, the supposedly lacklustre Toney of the Batchelder fight and after all the Rahman fight showed us only a couple of rounds. But it was disheartening to see as a Toney fan.
I dont think anybody is going to stop Toney, it could happen against the Klitschkos. But who knows. Anyway I have no desire to see a sloppy and out of condition James Toney continue to eke out pointless decisions against people who are not fit to even tie his laces.
Get the Thompson fight signed quickly. If James can actually shed 10 pounds and do some serious roadwork maybe he can surprise us again. But there have been too many false promises for too long, and its tiring. A focussed and ready Toney can beat Thompson. A lazy Toney loses a wide UD and his world stage is pretty much gone for good.
Toney messed up again here though, and I hope he knows it. I say give him a final shot against a top 10 contender and let him either put up or shut up for good.
That fight on rewatch was an even more s!!!!ty decision by three blind judges .I gave Byrd 4 rounds tops, very early & 2 rounds late but in between Oquendo had that odd Crisp jab,Fall forward then throw a hard one-two combo,It worked.... that was a robbery.Byrd has ecscaped a few.Toney should retire or change his name to Fred Sanford

It would really depress me if Toney kept fighting on and eventually got stopped. Nobody's unknockoutable (new word ) especially if you're shot.
Some of the shots he gets hit with now, he just didn't before, its clear as day.
I would love to see someone knock that piece of lard out. I hate Tony, he is thinks he is the best and can't back it up.
Keep in mind im a Hamed, Mayweather, Whitaker, Hopkins fan. Flamboyant, cockyness is cool, but their is just something I don't like about this guy....
Hidden Content There is no reward for second place
It's a shame a fighter like Fres couldn't get a break...this would have been a huge win for him but they gave it to Toney who IMO looks worse than Tyson did when he fought Williams and McBride.
At least Tyson managed to land meaningful blows in those fights. Toney struggled to impose anything upon Oquendo. Yep, the Toney rollercoaster may almost be up.
Like I say, I want to see him have a fight with Thompson just to confirm whether or not its over.
I cannot bring myself to sit through the Oquendo fight again. Just horrible to watch.
Tony Thompson would have schooled James Toney....Thompson is a difficult win for ANYONE in the division. He has a good defense, he has a good workrate, and he has a good jab, he has a good chin, he just doesn't have much power.
I wonder where Thompson goes from here...he's not going to get many great shots as he's a difficult fighter to beat. I would like to see him fight McCline.
