Default My thoughts on the 'handwrap' situation

I am personally of the feeling that this is a non story.

Naseem Richardson works with hopkins, come on they are kings of psychological ploys. It was just done to unsettle Margarito most likely.

If ANYTHING dangerous or illegal was found in his gloves they just wouldn't make him rewrap they would stop the fight, ban Margarito and probably take criminal action against him and his training team. He'd and his entire team would be thrown out of boxing for life.

It would be like catching Usain Bolt in a toilet prior to his 100 meter race with needle that he's about to stick in his ass, career over, bye bye.

They also wrapped his gloves three times. Presumably wraps two and three were under close observation. Are we really expected to believe in the full view of the opposing trainer and referee they attempted to slip something in again the second time only to be told ' Now now! Take that out we told you once already!' and Tony's team are like relucantly sighing 'Ok.......'

    It's a non story imo.

Either way it'll all come out in the wash.

It shows you the mentality of some of the people around here though - they are have already tried, convicted and executed Margarito's career.

And then there is this group of people who are WILLING it to be true so that that a fighter that they support comes out looking better

Personally, if it is true it is a terrible, terrible thing that nobody should be celebrating. Miguel Cotto took a vicious beating from Tony, and I sincerely hope it was legal for the sake of Tony, for the sake of the sport, and for the sake of Cotto. We don't know yet, but he may never be the same again.

I just can't see where people like Danny G and others are coming from on this one.

In a normal sport, yes, but this is boxing, the shadiest, grimiest sport around.

You think they would call off a multi million dollar PPV for that? Refund everyone's money and say "sorry, no fight tonight, one fighter tried to cheat." Common man.

Its a different situation, you can take the drugs out of the person's system if they are on steriods, but the glove thing is an easy thing to fix, IMO its ignorant to think they would make Margarito re-wrap himself 3 times if there wasn't a problem, and it wasn't just Richardson, but others that got involved. We don't really know exactly what happened, but there is no evidence that has been brought forth that contradicts Margarito having some plaster like substance in his wraps.

I'm not saying there was no problem at all, maybe they were wrapping them too tightly or doing something that infringed the rules.

My point is that it wasn't 'horseshoe in the gloves' level illegal and more 'your cup protector is too high' level illegal.

Just like the ref warns when a fighter has his trunks too high and tells him to pull them down a bit, here Tony had something minor wrong with his gloves and was told to rewrap them.

It ain't no scandal is what I'm saying.

What gets me are the prefixes with constant "Ifs" and foregone conclussions being thrown around. Is it human nature to want to tear someones charecter and career down so willingly based souly on inconclusive official findings and speculation at this point,I mean, seriously,The revisionist history is killing me?I'll wait on the findings from the commission as opposed to group think based on a payed camp member, lawyers and commentators with agendas.

True. If they had to rewrapped thrice does that mean Margarito's team attempted to slip these 'plasters' thrice too? Nope. His team.. his corner may have been doing this before. Yes. BUT has anyone stopped them? the word 'caught' does not even fit in this issue. Everyone has their one way of doing wraps..and that's the way they do it. And it took them the 4th time to make Mosley's team happy.
