Default What will be the most competitive division in boxing in 2009?

Looks like the new crop of talent is starting to emerge across the board in boxing. Which division will have the mpst competitive fights in 2009?
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I think this year maybe the one when a lot of prospects come of age at 135, keeping it the most competitive division

    122.
Three ring top ten p4p fighters(Vasquez, Marquwz, Caballero), and another potential (Lopez). Plus the likes of Ponce de Leon, Molitor, Concepsion, etc etc.

I voted Super Feather but I think Super Bantam is right next to it.

I just can't help it but think of some of the names that are there and ones that are moving up.

    Soto
    Valero
    Linares
    Rocky Martinez
    Antillon
    Mitchell
    Guerrero
    Barrios
    Chirizo Gonzalez

possibility to move up: Luevano, Gamboa and Appleby.

Usually the hottest divisions are lightweight, welterweight and middleweight. Right now with Pacman having moved out of lightweight and Pavlik not looking forward to any mega fight soon, that leaves welterweight with way too many matchups that no matter what two guys you throw in together against each other promises excitement.

I think welter and junior welter could see a lot of action this year but I went for light middle. This division was a wasteland just a few months ago but we've got some potential great matchups to look forward to in 09.

It wouldn't suprise me at all if Margarito moves up to 154 now. We got Santos and Williams, James Kirkland, Martinez, Vernon, Cory Spinks, Angulo and a host of others. Should be some good matchups in 09, not really the best division, no superstars there but I voted for it cos I wanted them to get a mention.

It has to be Welterweight followed by Light Welter, Jr. Middle, Middleweight, Super Middleweight, and Light Heavyweight and it all depends on where the fighters in those divisions currently move to.

    The key fighters are:

Floyd Mayweather Jr. - is he really retired for good or will he come back?

Manny Pacquiao - Is he a legit Welterweight or did he just destroy a weight drained De la Hoya?

Antonio Margarito - Providing he isn't kicked out of boxing for good then where does he go 147 or 154....at 154 I honestly don't see him doing as good because there are bigger guys for him to fight and he won't be able to bully them.

Paul Williams - Can he really move between 147 and 160 successfully?

Kelly Pavlik - Is he making 160 without trouble or will he have to move up to 168 and perhaps change his style to be more effective?

Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins - Are they going to have many more fights if so at which weight classes. (and by no means am I suggesting they have a rematch).

Felix Sturm and Arthur Abraham - Will they decide to fight the REAL talent of the division or will they stay safely in Europe away from Kelly Pavlik and Jermaine Taylor.

Jermaine Taylor - has he regained his swagger at 168 or did Pavlik ruin him.

I think for depth of talent and possible match ups it has to be super middle.

You have, Kessler, Bute, Andrade, Froch, Miranda, Mundine, Taylor, Bika, Balzsay, Green and theres rumours of codgers like Ottke and Beyer coming back, then you have the possibility of a Calzaghe V Froch matchup

Bingo! What Mick,no love for Juarez .I think Valero,Linares,Soto and Antillon are as explosive as it gets.Antillon has Champion written all over him but would like some more mobility.

Might be off the meds but 140 shaping up just a bit as well.Off last night,Urango has to be a player.Holt,Bradley match up is nice.M.Alvarado coming on strong but most likely going up.Hatton a constant and IF JMM moves up ( I dont think he should) but that would add some splash with Hatton fight.Torres vs.Urango ?hide the children lol.
