Default Do people actually respect the opinion of Steve Bunce?

Guys I'm sorry to harp on about this, but if you're watching in the UK, you have to sit and wonder how this guy is paid for his boxing opinion.

In the last few weeks we've had him say...

Hatton would expose Miguel Cotto - he sighted that as Margarito had done it it proved his point
Jamie Moore deserves a world title shot more than Cornelius Bundrage (he also labelled K9 a bum)
A fight between Chris Arreola and Sam Peter would be crap as neither is exciting.
Enzo Maccarinelli is the man to beat at Cruiserweight

Those are just off the top of my head. He's just made comments about Armenians not being good fighters, but being good at sledging. He said they're good at cricket though. WTF? Bunce is a muppet!

Someone please back me up here...

He is shit on the telly at times, sometimes lots of times. He's much better in written form.

Yeah I'll back you buddy he speaks like he's just a poster on here just spouting his biased uniformed nonsense as if its gospel.

I cant deny I find him quite entertaining to watch at times and his shit does make his shows memorable at least but he really does baffle me sometimes with the opinions he puts forth.

I remember him saying Mayorga beat Mosley for 11 of 12 rounds as well.

Same opinion here. He just sounds like any old poster given a chance to speak on tv instead of typing. He isnt particularly insightful to me though.

He is watchable as he rants and raves like a man about to have a stroke at any moment, but I can only tolerate him in reasonable doses.

He's a bit random, but shows a lot of enthusiasm.

So bias towards British fighters too. If you listened to Bunce and agreed with him, you'd be thinking the Brits have the beating of every nation in every division.

He is biased, no doubt about that. An analyst shouldnt have blinkers on, its not professional IMO.

The thing is though (and I agree he talks some absolute shit at times) who is there that could front a show like this & be interesting in the long breaks between fights. He may chat shit but he keeps it interesting. I think there are guys who have a better reading of the sport like Richie Woodhall but the fact is Bunce is good at keeping us interested even if he does talk shit to do it. Look at the guys on Sky & ITV, I would hazzard that I've heard some of them come out with even stupider statements & they don't do it in an interesting way. I can't stand when I have to put out for a PPV & all I get is some boring old fighters (eg Glenn McRory, Nicky Piper, Jim Watt etc) who are often just as blinded by national ties. & 2 words just to emphasise how bad it can get - JIM ROSENTHAL

I'm sorry but I don't see how spouting shit and making up facts based on his own opinion is interesting. For me, it isn't interesting to see someone pretend to educate joe public about boxing with his own opinion which, based on the list I gave above...bares no resembelance to reality.

Like I said he talks shit & I think it would be good to have someone else on the panel with him on fight nights just so he couldn't simply get away with his ridiculous opinions, but the fact is for me & at least a few other people he is good entertainment. I'm not sure that people necessarily respect his opinion but I've heard some of the much better paid HBO guys come out with some fukkin stupid stuff as well, its just the way of the pundit

Bunce is pundit not an announcer. He's great for people in the UK that need a cheerleader for their fighters. The thing is UK fighters of late have made noise on their own merit, they don't need an anouncer to sell them to the public. That being said, it happens to a certain extent with guys in all countries. HBO obviously announces to favor their fighter, Teddy Atlas will randomly pic a fighter and go so far as to give them 10-10 rounds when they get knocked down. Bunce is bad though, I feel like I need aspirin everytime he starts ranting. If you are just looking for entertainment, watch a dancing monkey.

But then I'd need to change the channel when I basically have a London cab driver on speed (kind of like a ranting monkey) already entertaining me
